How would you compare these schools; all Catholic, 2 Jesuit. How is the feel, the students, the culture of the schools different?

I can't comment about LMU...but DD applied to and visited both SCU (where she is a student...so there will be a bias here), and USD. My daughter felt that USD was just too isolated up there on that hill. She went for overnights at both schools and felt USD was a bit too conservative for her, and in the evening, the campus was too quiet (this was a weekday). OTOH, she felt SCU had a good blend of liberal/conservative folks. The campus was a bit more lively, and overall, the programs she sought (engineering) was better at SCU.

Both are wonderful schools. We know kids who are very happy at USD. I think it's just a matter of personal preference. You would get an excellent education at either one. Both have very nice facilities.

What program(s) did your daughter choose to study?? I’d like to know what SCU has that USD doesn’t… No bias here, just trying to make a decision. Thanks.

Funny, I’m wondering the same thing. We visited all three this summer, and D liked them all.

All are beautiful campuses, and everyone was very nice. Not a lot of kids on campus in the summer, so can’t really help with the ‘feel’ question.

I’m hoping D will do a spread sheet with pros and cons, but for now, I think she is planning to apply to all three.

krazy…DD is an engineering major. The engineering program at SCU was much more highly regarded and had many more options than USD had to offer. USD’s engineering program is a 4 1/2 year program leading to a BA/BS degree. DD didn’t want that. She wanted a four year BS in engineering. In addition, my kiddo wanted to take instrument lessons and play in a student orchestra. At USD, the orchestra is comprised of some students as well as community members. And they did not have an adjunct teaching her instrument at the time she applied. SCU just had “more” of what my kid wanted. BUT as I said…we know others who are mighty happy at USD.

We don’t know a thing about LMU.
