I got my heart set on Villanova. It's mostly because I'm taking summer courses there so I've had first hand experience with the teachers, well 2 at least :) . I know about the whiteness and rich kids, but I'm not scared. I'm going to be a man and I need to be fearless and unflinching. So far, I've visited Haverford, Temple, Penn, Drexel, La Salle, Arcadia, St. Joe's, West Chester, Holy Family, Philadelphia U, Penn State, Princeton, Rutgers, Muhlenberg, Lehigh, Susquehanna, Franklin and Marshall. I visited the last 4 all in the same day...with 6 people in a tiny Corolla...ew.

I had a B+ in gen chem 1 last session and this session, I think I'm going to have a B- or B in gen chem 2. A's in both labs! 4 in AP Lit, and 5 in AP US Hist. I'm done bragging!

I also plan to apply to Penn State, Temple, and another school yet to be determined.

You have any negatives against Villanova that would convince me otherwise?

It has a beautiful campus and buildings. It looks fantastic :)

It’s also a great college overall too :)

Nothing bad about it really. Except it’s Endowment is a bit low for a school with 9000 students (200,000,000 as a private).

It has a lot of Catholic (and Christian in general) students, so you might feel slightly uncomfortable at times if you aren’t of that faith. However, it’s a beautiful school with strong academics and I would absolutely recommend looking into it. My mom is an alum - feel free to PM me with any questions and I’ll ask her.

^ I can assume he is a Christian, by the choices he picked (or visited), “Holy Family”, “St Joes”, and etc… So he might feel comfratable.

If you are a christian, you might want to choose Boston College as one of your list.

lol, I’m no Christian, although I went to Catholic school from k-8 because public schools in philly suck.
i’m totally fine with catholics. a lot of them don’t even act catholic lol.

And thank you reesespieces. I’ll be sure to ask if I have any :)

“I know about the whiteness and rich kids, but I’m not scared.”

If you think you can live among rich white kids without getting beaten and robbed every day, you’re a braver man than I am.

^ What? Why would rich kids robs him? He would be brave if he can live among the poor while being rich. So he doesn’t get robbed or beaten.

^I think he was being sarcastic.

OP: That being said, it’s a good thing that you are comfortable among affluent white Catholics, because there are a lot at Villanova. From what you’ve said and from what I know about it, I think you’ll love it there. :)

Nah, my neighborhood’s not poor or affluent. We’re working class according to my sociology teacher.

So far you guys are doing a bad job of throwing out negatives. I’ve sneaked into the dining hall enough times to know the food really really sucks, and I’ve been on enough tours to know there is no senior housing or frat houses. and I’ve yet to meet a snotty person. It might be because it’s summer, idk.

The food. I got sick. The freshmen dorms are ridiculously far away from main campus. No thanks.

^ Lol nice attempt.

Is money an issue?

They don’t have a music major or minor.

The social scene at Nova is really lame. It really consists of going to Brownie’s, King of Prussia, Manayunk, Philly, and other universities like Temple and Penn.

If you dont love college basketball, you’re SOL

$204K for a very good, but not elite school is not an especially wise decision, especially when you can go to schools like Temple, Delaware, Maryland, and Rutgers, and graduate debt free.

When you say elite school, does that mean the school has better teaching quality, teacher accessibility, and financial aid?

"better teaching quality, teacher accessibility, and financial aid? "

Some elite schools have maybe only one of those 3 things.

Villanova is a fine school. However, it is very much a regional school. It has a great reputation from where I am from in New Jersey (particuarly because I am from a very Catholic area). So if you plan to work in the NY, NJ, PA area it will be fine.

However, as somone pointed out it is not an elite school. There is nothing wrong with that. To add to other statements, being elite also just has to do with reputation among employers, etc. So again, if you are interested in something pre-professional and want to work in NJ or Pennsylvania, it is a fine option. I would weigh how much money you will be in debt.

All I can tell you about it is that my friend who was a valedictorian and got a 2400 on his SATs got a merit scholarship there (:

Also just found out, another friend of mine will be attending Villanova on a full scholarship. Nice kid, his name is Darrun if you ever see him, and we call him Money.

Best of luck

The small size of the campus was appealing to me. It was quiet and providied a good learning environment. Since it is fairly small, there are some things they lack, and the reputation is fairly local. The professors like what they do and care about the students, which is something larger universities can’t do. You are more of an individual than a number. And the walk from south campus to main campus…many larger campuses you would walk that far just to get the bus to the main campus. And for cafereria food, I thought it was decent. While there are wealthy students at Nova, there are plenty of average people also, and some junky cars in the parking lot.
