Convince My Parents to let me take AP Psych?

Hey, so you might remember me posting a thread a few days ago about whether I should take Psych or Stat. I've decided on Psych because I find the material interesting, I like sciences that don't involve math (bio, psych, etc), and the teacher is my current teacher now for a different class and he really knows it well.

This is my current junior year schedule; I want to replace the business class with AP Psych.

1) AP Lang
2) Honors Spanish 4
3) Business*
4) Pre-Calculus
5) US History
6) AP Comp Sci

Especially by CC standards, it's not challenging, which is why I want to take Psych. But for some reason, my parents think the class is impossible and I won't understand the material, even though I've done pretty well in my courses freshman and sophomore year. I feel I should take it because I enjoy the material and at least 3 or 4 of those classes above I won't have to study for very much and I will have the time.

What can I say to convince them to let me take Psych? Thanks!

^Yeah I’ve been trying. It has like a 92% pass rate at my school, with more than half getting a 5, but they still don’t care lol it’s crazy. And isn’t it regarded as one of the easier AP’s?

Comp Sci is like 40x harder than psych.
Just tell them you are going to be dedicated to doing well in psych

If you take AP Psych you can learn some very interesting material that will:

 1. help you analyze literature
 2. give you insight into yourself, friends and family
 3. study the most effective techniques for learning
 4. understand human behavior
 5. realize the need for research
 6. if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP test, you can get college credit at many colleges

All of this without taking Psych 100 as a freshman in college. That class usually has a large enrollment. AP Psych was my D’s favorite class in high school.

ugh, i submitted the form today for psych but my parents won’t let me take it :(

they said that it’s too hard and there is too much to memorize? ;(

Sounds like a bit of overprotecting/over parenting to me. They shouldn’t be the ultimate deciding factor to YOUR academic record for YOUR college application. AP Psych at our school is very fun, and not very difficult, and most of the people who take it pass the test. And yeah, Computer Science is a lot harder than psych will ever be.

*Tries to make the schedule more rigorous by taking the one easiest APs.

^You’re pretty cool, aren’t you? Sorry that I’m trying to take an AP class that’s not up to your standards. I’ll check with you in the future next time.

Going from an elective business class to AP Psych IS actually making my schedule more rigorous lololol.

I self studied AP Psych 2 days before the exam. Easy 5. Psych is NOT rigorous. I’m planning on majoring in it though, so it may have had to do with the fact that I enjoyed the material so much. But then again, I can’t see how you couldn’t find the material interesting. I say take it. :)
