<p>You could take Fiction Writing or Poetry Writing – those are a lot of fun if they at all sound appealing.</p>

<p>I found some cool art classes that I wanted to take to fill out my last 3 credits. But they say 1st year or 2nd year only. Im transferring in as a 3rd year, does this mean I absolutely CANNOT take this class???</p>
<p>What classes are you talking about?</p>
<p>Likely the professor will either a) stick to the first year only mentality since it is fall semester, b) be sympathetic to transfers and let you in if there is space, or c) consider a transfer a first year to the university and let you in. c) is unlikely because they are likely trying to encourage majors, and as a 3rd year you will not be majoring in the discipline because you just wouldn’t have time to take all of the classes.</p>
<p>I’ll also advise you that art is very time consuming. My roommate was an art/English double major, and at various points in the semester I wouldn’t see her for a few days straight because she was off working in the art building (she might come and sleep for a few hours, and that’s a big might, she usually stayed there straight overnight if she could).</p>
<p>^I have been stalking the Introduction to Drawing 1 class taught by Richard Crozier, whose class (according to ratemyprofessors) seems to be quite relaxing and not very demanding.</p>
<p>That aside, do you know MUSI 2302 Keyboard Skills (Beginning) class is very demanding? The SIS description says that “No previous knowledge of music required,” so I just hop in. There is also the “Prerequisite: Instructor permission by audition,” but there doesn’t seem to be anything preventing me from enrolling in the class.</p>
<p>The professor could kick you out at any time, you’d better email them and get it straight from them.
I imagine it would be demanding, at least you would have to practice as long as it takes to get the notes down and so on.</p>

<p>The one part I don’t get is why, if the class is for beginner, an “audition” is required. I emailed the instructor a couple weeks ago asking that, but I haven’t gotten a reply yet.</p>
<p>Beginning keyboard does not require prior experience and doesn’t have a reputation as a killer course, so I’m not sure what the audition involves. You do need to have basic music-reading skills, though, and you will, of course, have to do some practicing. If you don’t know anything about notation, time signatures, etc. there is a more basic class you can take, Basic Musical Skills. If you play an instrument like flute, violin, etc. you might want to brush up on the bass clef.</p>
<p>The 2000 level guitar course, Fretboard Harmony, is much more demanding. Don’t take it unless you have a lot of prior experience on the guitar.</p>
<p>^Are you saying that if I have absolutely no musical knowledge, I have to take the MUSI 1310 Basic Musical Skills class first?</p>
