Hey guys! I’ve been admitted into HumEc through RD. However, Cornell REQUIRES me to attend PSP (Prefreshman Summer Program), otherwise my admission would be invalidated. I didn’t apply through EOP/HEOP, so why is it mandatory for me to go? Am I not as academically qualified as other applicants? I have a 95 avg 33 act and I’m a first generation filipino here. I’m kinda bummed out by the fact that I’m gonna have to basically give up my summer for this. Anyone in the same boat as me?
I wasn’t a part of PSP, so I might be wrong about this, but the general reputation is that it’s for minority and first generation students. So maybe it’s because you’re Filipino?
But I wouldn’t be too upset about it, if I were you. I know several people who did participate, and they all loved it. They came into freshman year with several great friends already made, some credits under their belts, and a much better knowledge of campus and how college works than the rest of us. I hope this helps!
I am in the same boat. Essentially, this program is built to help first generation students, whether academically qualified or not, get a sense of what it is like to be away from home, and to expose them to the academic rigors of Cornell. Honestly, I found it quite devastating when I found out as well, but on the bright side Ithaca is absolutely beautiful in the summer, and you will be very well prepared by the time you enter Cornell in the fall, so that you don’t face any culture/academic shock.
I talked to a friend of mine who did PSP last year, and apparently he had a blast. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t have a problem spending a month and a half at Cornell for the summer–it’s just that I won’t be able to spend my last summer of h.s. with my friends. I’m glad that this was cleared up and that I know I have some people in the same boat as me. @OMGDEVICE feel free to PM me if you do end up going!
@mrUDN69 I am definitely going and I feel the same way as you do. The way I see it is it will allow both of us to succeed and do well.
I will also be attending this the program. It somewhat sucks to give up my last summer vacation but I know that this experience will be fun and helpful towards the start of my fall semester.
@mrUDN69 and @Mack23 we should definitely talk more as we move closer to the commencement of the program.
What writing classes are they offering in the summer?
Many of my daughter’s suitemates did this program and loved it. They were all first generation college students.
Does anyone coming from NYC Know if we need a ticket? Because I never received one
