Hey guys,

Any ideas on how CALS handles AP English scores? I received a 5 on my AP Eng. Lang. test and subsequently tested out of 101/102 Eng. at my current institution. I've sent CALS an email, but I'm sure they get hundreds on the daily. Anybody had experience with how they handle AP English scores in relation to their writing requirements?

Thanks!

a 5 will usually let you place out of one of the required first year writing seminars, but not both. you’ll need at least one other writing class.

CALS requires 9 credits of written/oral expression. At least 6 of the 9 must be written. A 5 on AP English will get you 3 credits of written/oral. The remaining 6 can be fulfilled via other transferred writing courses and/or writing seminars and/or certain comm classes.

OK, well now that I have that covered…another question: Is it possible to transfer into a major at Cornell while not completing all the requirements? For instance, the major I want to transfer into has a stats requirement but STAT 151 at my university is terribly easy. I will be able to take Calc II and then a higher level stats class say, this summer. Would that work as far as putting it into my planned course work?

they give preference to students with prereqs completed. what’s the problem with it being easy? who cares lol just get it over with
