Two completely different schools that I've recently been accepted to but I'm still torn between them. What do you guys think is a better (non-academic) environment for a transfer student?

I would choose Williams. Congrats!

It all comes down to preference. If you want the feel of a bigger university in a great college town, go with Cornell, but if you want smaller college that offers more intimate classes, then go with Williams. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either choice. Definitely a good problem to have! Congrats!

what are ya looking for in a school?

I’m transferring out of Cornell, but more because I didn’t want to be in Ithaca for 4 years. My best friend goes to Williams and talks about wanting to leave all the time. My impression is that Williams is a very tough environment–academically because it’s so rigorous and socially because it’s a small school. Cornell can be equally tough, but I am someone who prefers a larger student body (it’s nice to hook up with someone and not have the entire class know about it, for instance). It really depends on if you want some anonymity on-campus at a larger school or a very intimate environment at a very rural LAC. I don’t really know much about transfer life, but I’ve met quite a few transfers at Cornell who love it. In terms of academics, Cornell is tough, but frankly, Williams sounds harder. Good luck with the decision! You really can’t go wrong here.
