Cornell CC fiasco

Apparently, someone posted a link from last year’s CC archives that went to a URL for the actual ED decisions. They weren’t supposed to see them til the 15th, but a few CCers actually did see their decisions. It was chaos over at those boards for awhile as students wondered if they might face legal consequences for accessing their decisions without authorization. Here’s the Cornell response to all this in the CC Cornell forum. Wow!

Here it is:

Quote:
Premature access to Cornell University admissions link shut down; Early Decision notification available December 15.

On Monday, December 12, 2005, a former Cornell University applicant posted a web link on www.collegeconfidential.com providing last year’s URL to the Cornell University admissions web site’s application status system.

By using this link and providing their unique identifications and passwords, a small number of current Early Decision applicants were able to view information about their own applications; this information was not intended to be viewed until December 15.

At no time, however, were students able to access information about applications other than their own.

The integrity of the admissions web site has not been compromised, and therefore, no action will be taken against these students.

Early Decision applicants will still be able to access decision information through the Cornell application status system on December 15 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Only on CC!!!

Despite this being yet another rehash......what a party. What a joy. I mean pure bliss on the forum. Fun for all and all for fun.

Maybe not so much fun for some!

I wish there was a Penn link like this

wait-so some ppl were able to find out whether or not they got in earlier? wicked...

Yeah, a whole bunch of CC ED Cornell people did just that!

Back door fun it was......people goin crazy. Then the fear set in and the puking started. I gues you could say it was party til you puked.

hazmat - Sounds like you were a witness to the debacle. I'm glad that wasn't us!!

hazmat, you applied ED for cornell right?

NO.......I was just cruising the site and saw the action and guffawed about the party. I could see that folks were getting nervous.....I knew the past history but this is undergrad and obviously Cornell was just lazy and left the back door open. A good time was had until some folks found out they had bad news and others saw NoDecision. It was what it was. I did not ever apply to Cornell. Good Luck to all of you however.

oh i see lol, sorry for my misunderstanding

Hey no problem.......drama draws a crowd 'ya know. So.......you? Are you a knowing bat tonite or waiting for the word?

it sure does. haha. i think everyone would like to be the knowing bat, but we just end up waiting for the word ...i guess lol

As a participant in the Cornell ED fiasco, I can say that it was definitely intense! Not that any of us who clicked the link originally really thought there was a chance of getting out acceptance revoked, but a few pessimists really made it hard for us.

anyway, it was crazy and I am damn glad to know now and not thurs!

good luck with decisions, upenn people.
