Official Statement from Cornell

Cornell's Director of Admissions, Mr. Jason Locke, confirmed in a phone conversation that they are aware of the nature of the link posting and that there will be no negative repercussions for CC members or visitors who followed the link.

We're waiting for an official statement from the admissions office, but I wanted to get this up because some members have been nervous about the situation. Glad to bring good news! :)

Here it is:

Premature access to Cornell University admissions link shut down; Early Decision notification available December 15.

On Monday, December 12, 2005, a former Cornell University applicant posted a web link on www.collegeconfidential.com providing last year’s URL to the Cornell University admissions web site’s application status system.

By using this link and providing their unique identifications and passwords, a small number of current Early Decision applicants were able to view information about their own applications; this information was not intended to be viewed until December 15.

At no time, however, were students able to access information about applications other than their own.

The integrity of the admissions web site has not been compromised, and therefore, no action will be taken against these students.

Early Decision applicants will still be able to access decision information through the Cornell application status system on December 15 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

so what we saw on the site was what really people were going to get december 15th. The results were legitimate (except the No decisioners like me)

Yup Yup Yup Yup Yup Yup Yup Yup

Wait... so if we got a letter that said our decisions werent made yet... then we wont be getting our decision on the 15th???

Sigh...yes you will...but they're making you wait until the 15th because they need to finish putting them on the web. They're not just being sadistic by creating deadlines, you know.

Let's hope...it's just wierd how they wrote letters. I guess that was just incase a few weren't up by 5:00 PM on Thursday or something.

That's the way I saw it too, live-

I've been reading this for a while and joined in...I was surprised to learn of the Cornell issue. I wish I had found out...I'm going nuts. Who found out they got in?

I hate how the colleges do their notification process...I wish they would send the letter when they know. This is worst feeling I've ever felt in my young life.

You will survive..........the time will come.

If this is the worst feeling you've ever felt, I'd say you're pretty freaking lucky.

"no action will be taken"?? who do they think they are? like they could get mad at a student for such a thing...

Well those business school kids who tried the same thing were denied admission if they were accepted kcirsch...

Whoa, talk about early.

Woah, talk about raising a thread from the dead.

Ya I read about people getting denied admissions when they hacked in to see their admissions early at different colleges. Lucky for these people...I HOPEFULLY wouldn't have taken that risk tho (although that's me talking now and not when I was an INSANE person waiting for my admission responses lol)

its december..whats this thread doing up..how sad nothing else is worthy of featured cornell material ;

Is there going to be a breach this year?.....just wondering.....

I heard someone went to jail for that...
