Link threads removed

A couple of threads which purported to contain a link to decision information were removed for the protection of our members. We have no idea what the link was, where it went, or whether it was legitimate. We don't have a College Rep in the Cornell forum to check with, so, as with all links of unknown veracity, we removed the posts.

For those of you who wanted to click it - be aware that universities have rescinded decisions for unauthorized early access to decision information. We'd prefer to keep our members safe.

Thanks for your cooperation.

and..for those of us who already clicked it? (atleast without knowing what the site had?)

Yes, I would like to know the answer to that! I am going crazy here.

I am going to call admissions tommorow morning and tell them this:

"I came across a link in a message forum in which the poster claimed was the decision page. I thought it was a joke/prank post, and it wasn't serious, so I decided to log-in and click the link. I was then able to see that I was accepted. I am calling to bring this to your attention if Cornell isn't aware of it yet, and I want to apologize if I saw what I wasn't supposed to see. I do not know if they are real, and do not want to know; I will find out on Thursday. I had no idea it would lead to a decisions page. Again, I'm sorry."

I do not think it was "unauthorized". If it were unauthorized, we would have needed to do more than merely just click a link.

Jrcho: Mention if there are any legal reprecussions to what you just did. That would be great for everyone who clicked the link so we all dont have to call.

Actually, I think somebody on the East Coast better do it.

When the admissions office opens (probably at 8AM or so), it will be 5AM PST, so somebody on the east coast do it please?

If you're up front with it i'm sure they'll be understanding. I wouldn't worry too much seicheong, but calling is definitely a good idea.

2100 or bust, that post was the epitome of lazyness lol

My personal opinion would be that a university would look silly for hassling students who clicked a link in a public forum like College Confidential. I'd worry more about who at the university posted apparently sensitive information in a location accessible to the public, if acceptance data was indeed exposed.

If they found evidence of hacking activity, e.g., attempted password cracks, etc., or some other aggravating condition, like using an administator's user ID to access confidential data, that might be a different story.

Holy **** I am FREAKING out

Roger...

Do you remember exactly how the grad students found out?

It was more than merely clicking a link right?

i am really worried that there might be legal repurcussions to just clicking on that link. i read one of the articles about stanford rejecting the hackers and it said that the "hackers" showed a lack of judgement and that was one of the main reasons they were rejected! there is no "accidental" i guess. we just shouldn't have clicked in on the first place.

does anybody have a screenshot, or a recollection of the URL that the link took you to?

If I were you all I would listen to rodger, you're probably not in any trouble.

can the moderators find out who glfromcornell is? and track down that person?

i clicked it a few hours ago and it said they did not make a decision for me yet...does that mean i will be rejected since jrcho88 was accepted??

why would they do that?

Is that the person who posted the link initially?

My friends took a screenshot of both the thread and the acceptance page while I was freaking out/panicking over being expelled. I <3 my friends! I think I'm going to call tomorrow as well... just to be sure.

yea, GLfromcornell is the person who posted the first link

maybe its done alphabetically? everyone who got a decision what does ur last names start with
