militarythreat, sorry to hear that you didn't get in... I'm quite shocked that you got a decision this early from the college of engineering; usually they do not start to release decisions until starting early May into late June. Did you find out through the online status page?

ya i am aware of my faint chances at Duke. There is such a stiff competition, I dont know what to do. My college doesnt have engineering so I wanted to go to engineering schools. I am not sure what to do now. I think I will major in physics now.

Duke is probably better than Cornell, I mean overall. Duke cant match Cornell in science and technological aspect, and I know that. Lets hope for the best. I can do nothing more than remain hopeful.

I am sorry to hear that.
I will never get Cornell and their GTs. So many people with horrible stats get in while people like you get rejected.
When/how did you get your decision?

I am not completely sure how it goes for internationals, but I think that somebody who goes there said that Cornell is needblind for everyone, they just don't meet the full need for internationals. That means that your financial situation wouldn't affect their decision.

Where are you from?

P.S. btw why do you say that calculus and C++ classes are sophomore classes?

I've been looking at these pages for a few days now waiting to see what kind of people get in, so I guess I should contribute. I applied to CAS. I am currently a freshman at a state university.

College Stats:
Honors Program, Mathematics and Physics major
1st Semester GPA: 3.912 - Dean's List (I took a requred freshman writing class, a 200 level physics class, 2 200 level math classes, a 300 level math class, and a 400 level math seminar)
2nd Semester (at midterm report) - 4.0 (all classes in math: a 100 level seminar, a 200 level class, 2 300 level, 2 400 level, anad a 500 level graduate class)
A few clubs and awards, but very light ECs in college (partly my reason for wanting to leave)
HS: 3.65 GPA (roughly)
SAT I - 800 Math, 690 verbal
SAT II - Math IC: 800 - Math IIC: 800 - chemistry: 750
AP - Calc BC: 5 - Physics B: 5 - Chemistry: 5
Lots of ECs, state + national level

My recs were probably excellent and my essays were very good as well. I hope they start releasing more decisions soon...

i think u have a great chance......

I meant I am taking Optics and Modern Physics and Differential equations. I passed out from General Physics I and II , and also from Calc I and II.

Sorry for the confusion. C++ is not sophomore level computer class. I meant the above.

And I think Cornell offers no aid to int'l kids, especially for transfers. i heard that one kid frm my country got into Cornell (class of 10) but without aid. He cant go there now, cant afford. So comparing that, rejecting my application for admission is not a big deal for them. Easy decision. YES, for internationals, financial aid matters a lot. I think even at Brown it matters and they only take like 100 transfers. So it was easy picking for them. I dont know the details about the process.

And decision was online.

I guess I better enjoy California summer than think about the east ..lol...and my college is not bad either.

peace.

ooo, u obviously go to Pomona or Harvey Mudd, they are both great

yep....u got it rite...i thought Cornell was even better.

dude, wat's so bad about the california sunshine?

i meant the university itself, cornell is way too good than HM....about the weather, NY sucks, CA rulzz

Has anyone been accepted aside from Guaranteed Transfers?

to qwpoeriuty,

you should try to get into work at Stanford's lab : Stanford Linear Accelerator or at Caltech's instead of going to Cornell CAS with ur kind of records.

well, I am much more of a math person than a physics person, although I would like to work for a summer at a particle accelerator. also, I want to stay in the northeast. anyway, it is much harder to get into stanford. I'm worried I wont get into cornell.

you have such a wonderful record. they should take u without any problem. i am afraid that they can tag u overqualified, which means that adcom at Cornell might think u probably applied to Berkeley, MIT or Caltech, and since ur records are so compelling, u get accepted anywhere and might easily choose other school. Cornell might think this way, just my hunch. Otherwise u are perfectly fine for acceptance.

Well, I hope you're right and I do get accepted...but I guess we'll find out in a couple of days (I hope a couple of days, I can't take waiting much longer).

For international students, it is needblind admissions....They do not look if you applied for financial aid or not...I tried withdrawing my financial aid application and the advisor from Cornell told me not to withdraw since it does not affect decision......

Here is the email from the financial aid office..

Your assumption about the role of financial aid in the admission process is incorrect. At Cornell, our admission decisions are need blind. In other words, the fact that you apply for aid does not have an impact on our admission decision. Our financial aid is very limited anyway. However, if you do not apply for aid now, you will have not chance for aid after you are accepted or enroll at Cornell.
If you still want to withdraw your aid application, please respond saying so and I will let your processing staff know.
Best wishes, Wendy Schaerer

perhaps my academic record was below par for Cornell standards.

ur stats r crazy......U wil get into duke hopefully.....good luck!!!!!!!!!

Any CALS decisions yet?

the competition for inernationals is much stiffer...
