Cornell Deferred 2022

@BobSagets My letter doesn’t have a phone number…

Defered into ILR. I heard there were 20% more ILR candidates. Can we apply to a different dept?

omg i thought i was the only one who applied for CALS Bio without science ECs… my ECs are literally all music related so that was probably a bit odd-looking…

@pythakorean is there an abundance of science related opportunities in your area? this definitely influences their decision.

@BobSagets not to my knowledge? I did volunteer at a children’s learning center about space for a couple weeks though. I can’t really think of a research facility or etc. around here but that may just be because I never thought of really looking  oh wellllll

@pythakorean then they probably understand your situation. when i visited cornell, there was a girl who was doing research at 2 places… but she lived in NYC. So that definitely matters

No need to get SAD. We are in america and not sure if it is across the board but the admission offices cannot differentiate between good students and bad students as many students will have GPA above 4.0 with bad and low level curriculum. Colleges will not bother to include the GPA from college classes if the students take classes at Colleges. They have no system of assessing students. It turns out that American Education system is no better than education system in under developed countries. Unfortunately Some of the best Students suffer because of poor assessments and admission processes at American universities ( This does not exclude good universities). Department of Education needs to work on better admission processes at the university if at all they have any control on universities. If you are a best student than go wherever you get free ride or cost you minimal. Since being best you will contribute to the system. Any ways good schools make you pay so much so it is not worth for good students to be in debt going to those so called good schools. Good students in today’s world are benefiting from the network of the other students and online resources. You need to go to school just for degree anyways. I am not saying you need to go to the worst school. But you don’t need to go to best school either.

American Colleges admission offices cannot differentiate between good students and bad students as many students will have GPA above 4.0 with bad and low level curriculum and SAT and ACT level is already not that great. Colleges have no good system of assessing students and frankly they do not even care for good system. What is stupid is intelligent kids wonder on the stupid processes and make feel college take proud for deferring good kids(hiding on the bad processes). Why don’t good students understand that they need to do the same. Do not care that you get into good school. Care and value yourself. Go to the school willing to invest in you.

Hey guys! I applied to CALS under biological sciences and was deferred. Honestly I’m still hoping for the best because they saw something in us at least! Here are my stats: GPA- 4.5 (W) 3.9 (UW), SAT- 1370, SAT II- None, EC- Strong, Essays- Strong (I think), No legacy status.
My SAT was a bit weak so I wasn’t too surprised I was deferred! Personally, I know I am going to write a letter reiterating why Cornell is my first choice. Goodluck to you all! I hope some of us get some good news in April!

@KTang000 Hi! Glad to see another deferred Bio Sci major from CALS! Did you have any really cool science ECs? I definitely didn’t, which is probably why I was deferred. My stats are probably good enough (4.2 GPA, 34 ACT), but all of my ECs are pretty generic.

@Bella2018 Nice to meet you too! As for Science EC’s I didn’t have any exceptional ones, but I did have a few! During summer 2016 I did a neuroscience camp at the University of Washington, and I founded and lead the USA Biology Olympiad at my high school. Most of my “unique” EC’s had actually dealt with humanities and community service though.

I heard through people deferred at Harvard that they were sending a LOCI and an “update letter”… however, I heard that it’s better not to send too much/inundate the admissions officer with repeated information. What are you guys planning on doing?

Hi everyone…I was deferred ED from CALS… food science major… My stats are embarrassingly mediocre and I am surprised I didn’t get declined but here I am! L o l

I didn’t get an interview during the ED round, and I was just contacted for one today. Anyone else? Also, has anyone done an interview over phone?

oh man i got deferred too and this is my first time back on cc since december. >:/ i was a CALS bio applicant and for some reason i really had a feeling i was going to get in (had a dream about it too :frowning: ) just sent in my deferral letter and additional rec from my calc teacher so now i can only pray :frowning: My 1st semester grades be lookin kinda trash so. What can ya do

Does anybody know how many deferred CALS applicants eventually get accepted

Is there a set date that acceptances/rejections are sent out

@hunter21 march 28 at 7 pm eastern time

Only 10 hrs and 34 mins left to go. Best of luck to you all!!

@EugeneCrabs Hey I know this is super late, but if you’re still interested, this year’s statistics for Architecture was 914 applicants, 47 RD acceptances, 22 ED acceptances
