Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

By the way, does anyone know other than submitting the FAFSA and CSS profile, what else we need to submit? It seems that Cornell also has its own financial aid form but when I go to the Financial aid To Dos on my Applicant ID account, I can’t find anything. As of now, I have only submitted FAFSA and CSS.

@becca15 I have no idea. You can google for CAAAN or look at their website, https://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/ and maybe find out.

@quietdesperation I applied in hope of aid lol, don’t expect enough to justify going but it was worth a shot. However, UVA isn’t the real contender since I want to do engineering (it’s pretty awful for it), but VT is pretty nice (however offers very little aid even in state).

Applied early to ILR school a couple days ago. Just got my applicant ID. Anyone else applying to ILR? btw good luck to everyone

eek, I am so nervous! How are you guys dealing with the anxiety and stress?

@Bjklw2a If you have sent everything so far or check marks by everything on your status page, then you’re good until mid-November. They won’t just leave us hanging if we’re missing anything. Here’s what it says right at the top of everyone’s application status page:

Freshman early decision applicants: We will notify you in mid-November by email if we are missing materials from your application, and we will provide you with an opportunity to submit those materials.

got it @Shrilkshire , have you thought about taking a crack at MIT if cornell doesn’t work? they’ll love your math score…

@quietdesperation Yeah, I’m planning on applying there regular if I get denied from Cornell early.

Yes, they are optional/not required and mostly a chance to ask Qs you have about the school, life there, etc … That said, as an alum who does these for my school and spouse of a Cornell alum who does these for Cornell, it does help if the person you meet really likes you and sees a Cornell fit; they do send in written evals of the discussions. Unless you really have zero questions (unlikely IMO) or you cannot conduct yourself reasonably in a casual 30-60 min conversation with an adult, then it makes sense to do this meeting. Any oppty to make yourself stand out is worthwhile in this process.

I see that SAT Scores and ACT scores have check mark, but I dont see a check mark on “Test Score Reports”. Does that mean test reports have not been sent?

@IBsleeping Idk… I probably won’t get in but I love cornell so much! :frowning:

@Bjklw2a are you referring to the IDOC? I had some questions about it too, and I learned that, while I/the college guidance counselors at my high school may be wrong about this, the institution that contacts you for information using the IDOC is often wanting to confirming that the financial aid documents are correct (aka if you have any spare money). My friend is also applying ED to Cornell and she received an email from Cornell/collegeboard with an ID to sign up, but she’s living in a single parent household and hasn’t had any contact with her biological father ever, so it’s possible that they’re confirming that that’s true (and are also seeing if her biological father has any money to spare on her). Another friend of mine applied ED to Cornell at the same time and hasn’t received any information about the IDOC from Cornell, while another friend of mine who applied REA to Stanford received information (and she’s adopted).

Cornell has a very short period of time to evaluate all applicants. They try to get as many applicants to meet their alums, but it is not always possible. Cornell’s interviews do not have much impact on the whole admission process. It is a good opportunity for applicants to find out more about Cornell. Do not get stressed out if you do not get an interview.

Now that your ED applications are in, now is a good time to start focusing on getting all of your RD application ready. Large % of you will be denied/deferred (sounds harsh). You don’t want to write all of those essays when you are depressed. I am a parent with 2 kids who went through EDs with different results.

Good luck.

My interviewer first emailed me Wednesday and I replied later that day, but she has yet to reply. Should I send a second email? I don’t want to be rude because I’m sure she’s busy but she had suggested next Sunday for meeting and I’ll need to know in advance because I’m supposed to work Sunday. What should I do?

@hleeigh Are you applying to CAS or engineering? Is there even interviews for those applicants?

@hleeigh http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/application-checklist/applicant-checklist-tips

Lol, I guess I answered my own question.

@roboticsnerd33 I applied to CALS so not “interviewer” but alumni lol. I know it’s informational and doesn’t matter much for admissions but I want to go since it was offered to me. Plus there is some stuff I wanted to talk about related to my major that has happened since I submitted my application, and they write a report.

@hleeigh How do you know you were offered one? Did you get an email or something?

@roboticsnerd33 Yeah, she emailed me Wednesday saying she was an alum with CAAAN and would like to offer me an informational meeting to talk about Cornell. She suggested a date and I replied suggesting times but she still hasn’t replied to me :frowning:

@hleeigh LIT. I’m hoping I get some sort of email
