Do y’all think they might look down on it if i submit 1st nine week grades because they were good.
@Shrilkshire No they won’t. Your progress report is going to be another of evidence that supports your application. If your senior grades are good, they won’t hurt you at all.
Does anybody know how to submit supplementary recommendations that aren’t from teachers?
@lourveamerican everything is handled through the common app if you used the common app, it’s under the recommendations section on the Cornell application supplement section in “add recommender.”
switched to RD more torture for me yay
Anyone get an IDOC ID yet? I still wanna make sure I’m not the only one with FAFSA still on the list. Good luck everyone!
All financial aid items marked as “Initiated” for my daughter.
@Jaysawwwwn Don’t worry! I emailed asking the financial aid office and they said they still haven’t gotten to the FAFSAs. Once they check all those, they will get CollegeBoard to send out the IDOC confirmation IDs. They said they’re going to start sometime this week
@mrn0598 Thank you very much!
Does anyone know how they decide who gets an interview and who doesn’t from CAAAN? There are around 6 kids from my school applying ED, and only me and my friend were notified about an interview.
I don’t know. My friend, who has about the same stats and extracurriculares as me, got an interview recently at the local coffee shop while I haven’t. But she’s applying to CoE while I’m applying to CAS, so maybe it’s based on the college and major you are applying too. Hopefully, for those of us who haven’t received a notification, it’s not because the adcoms are planning to reject/defer us but rather because the alumni haven’t gotten to us yet.
No, the CAAN group tries to meet with everyone. Sometimes they lack alumni to do the meetings, but that’s pretty rare … once CAAN assigns it to a volunteer, they then have to act to get in touch with a prospective student, and that can take a little time (people have lives, jobs, etc), and sometimes the in-bound email lands in a student’s junk or spam folder (so check there too). That said, the message from CAAN to interviewers is clear upfront that prompt action is needed for ED applicants. I wouldn’t worry at all - I think all the ED meetings are supposed to be done by end of Nov (or even a little later) so there is still time. I’ll also add that these are not evaluative for the student; they’re really designed to give students a chance to ask Qs, etc. Best of luck!
Have my CAAAN meeting today… Anyone who’s already gone have tips/advice?
Has any ed applicant received there IDOC login yet?
@collegeman44 Just got mine a few minutes ago. FAFSA is still on my to do list, however, so I assume they’re still getting to that and just wanted to send some IDs since the deadline is in less than a week.
@collegeman44 Just so you all know, we just went through this IDOC headache. Earlier this week we realized we had not been given an IDOC ID to be able to login. We called COrnell’s Fin Aid office directly and apparently our FAFSA was missing and it never triggered the request fro IDOC. We did FAFSA on October 2nd and got all the confirmations. We called Cornell back and after a few keystrokes they said “Ah, there it is” and had to get IT to put it in the right place. It wasn’t anything we did, so just call them directly if you haven’t received your IDOC and they will release the request to College Board.
@Euler21 I have my CAAN interview tomorrow afternoon (11/18) at 3:30. I’m a CoE applicant. I’ll post back anything I learn from it.
@cotopaxi I had it yesterday, so I suppose I should be the one posting what I learned. My interviewer asked me about my interests, unique traits, and things that weren’t present in the application. He seemed to really like how I was able to cite specifics about Cornell. He wrote down notes, so it is important to mention very specific stuff that they can write down and send to admissions (I talked about a Cornell professor). If you do a Google search, I believe there is a college confidential thread that has a link to the instructions for interviewers. This helped me a lot, as he followed those instructions to the letter! I don’t have the link on hand, but if you search it up before your interview you can get a good idea of what they will ask. Good luck!
@cotopaxi Did they remove FAFSA from your To Do List? I got my ID so I’m sure they have it, but it’s just strange that it’s still listed as if it wasn’t received
@Jaysawwwwn same, i got idoc but fafsa still says initiated
