Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

Hi all,
I don’t think it’s about the length of time of the interview, but rather the substantive discussion you have. I had an excellent hour long conversation during my alumni interview, and really connected with my interviewer and showed that I really thought through why I wanted to study at Cornell. In the end, as long as you articulate your fit and interest in the program, you’ll have a great alumni interview.

I agree with @vigilia

@quietdesperation computer engineering as a major, electrical eng as minor.
@Shrilkshire GeorgiaTech was his first choice of RD but a friend of his with similar financial background and academics, showed us what he’s paying, it’s way out of our league.

People applying to ILR, what are your career aspirations if u have any yet?

@etrac0609 I want to focus on Diversity Management, Industrial ethics in Asia, and conflict resolution, possibly HR director or consultant for a transnational organization in future.

For those who are applying for financial aid, has your checklist been updated? I sent my IDOC materials about a week ago but they still show up as “initiated” on my account…

@kyunghee Mine have finally cleared both College Board and Cornell Financial Aid. No more items on the to do list. It took a chat session on College Board to find out they were overwhelmed and way behind. Instead of 3 - 5 days, it was taking 7 - 10 to update Cornell’s side of things. On a side note, this tells me there is another record number of ED applications this year, which is sort of a bummer for my chances. :frowning:

Guys are you sure the results are coming out the 8th? I know thats what it said on the CAAAN document but i just had my CAAAN interview today (not sure how it went. He was really nice, lasted about an hours. He spent most of the time talking about his experience at Cornell, and he didn’t ask me any questions. )

Anyways, he told me that he was told the results are coming out December 16th.

Also, how long did ur guys’s interviews last? Im kind of nervous because he didn’t really ask any questions, but maybe he just has a chill personality.

@reformedman I have a csi degree, worked for a couple of large, famous tech startups and on wall st. First, he’ll get a great education at any of the schools mentioned. On wall st, we hired a lot of RPI graduates. and I recall wall st and technology ranked rpi in its top five. A friend’s son is at northeastern studying ce and loves the coop system. Case has a great brand in the midwest, less name recognition in the East (but improving). Lehigh has a strong alumni network but I’m not sure how much that really helps when it comes time to find a job. I really wanted to attend lehigh (love the campus) but couldn’t come close to affording it. I also liked RPI but couldn’t afford that either (zero parental contribution).

the tech firms where I worked were very snobby and wouldn’t hire out of school unless you’d attended an ivy or ivy equivalent. you might also consider rochester (good merit) and mcgill (no merit but lower list price)

if it were me, I’d let price guide me between those schools unless he’s really focused on a wall st career. I bet he gets into cornell and you won’t have to worry about it!

luck!

Wow, okay. Seems like we are having problem with the date again.
Do all the decisions come out on the same day for all applicants regardless of the schools?

It is not the 16th… Results usually come out on Thursday. I would just stick with the 8th as it was given out in an official document.

yeah last year it came out on 10th which was a Thursday

@cotopaxi that’s good to hear that my documents are probably just being processed slowly :stuck_out_tongue: the competition this year is definitely not good news though haha, but I guess all we can do now is wait and hope

@xoxogossiptoad Hi, could you please tell me whether the 2 students who got an interview at your high school applied to CAS? Thank you!

I had my interview today, lasted just over an hour and a half and only ended because my interviewer had to get home. It went really well and she agreed that the date was the 8th.

@reformedman Oh rip, I didn’t know georgia tech was that bad for aid, cost is really important for me so I guess that isn’t an option :frowning:

Guys the day is approaching!!! Dec. 8th seems to be the day! I am stressful as many of you. But remember guys! It is a reach school for everyone. There is no guarantee for anyone to get in. So let’s all calm down, take a deep breath. We have been working so hard for our top school. Even if we receive rejection, at least we won’t regret our efforts. Remember, Cornell rejects you may not mean you are not good, it can just simply mean it can’t take that many students. (Every college has its seat limit) SO, if you know you are a hard-working student, a student with dream. Why not believe that you will have a promising future at any school you go? Check out those Cornell professors! Many of them went to an average state school for undergraduate, but now they are teaching at nation’s best university! You will take same subjects or majors whether you are in Cornell or in other schools. YOU are the same, YOUR dream is the same. College is just the beginning of our life journey. We will continue learning, not only for next four years, but our whole life! When it’s Dec. 8th, some may be happy, some may be disappointed. But they all are dreamers, they all have the desire to create a better future for them! SO, IF you receive acceptance, congrats, it will be your reward. IF you receive rejection, No worry, it will just become a part of your life experience that one day you can tell your child that" hey! Don’t stress out about college! your (Dad or mom) also used to be a loser, but look where I am now!!"

@crooked One applied to HumEc, the other applied to CALS!

@xoxogossiptoad Got it. Thank you!

Hello,
Anyone applying to the school of hotel administration?
How much are the chances for an international student to get in with financial aid as an ED applicant??
