Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

Officially saw decisions will be released on 12/8. Good luck everyone!

@collegemomjam did you see it anywhere else apart from the CAAAN?

No, just on these boards.

Does anyone know when ed applicants will hear back? I know it will be during winter break, but I can’t figure out the exact date. Thanks!

@jvan77 Read just 4 posts above yours. It has been mentioned on this thread about 50 times. December 8th seems to be the day. Good luck.

@Coll2021 Good advice, but I’ll admit it’s easier said than done. I’m sure we all put a lot of emotional energy into the ED process and we all think we’re worthy, yet deep down we all know the chances are slim. I’d like to be able to just file it away when they reject me, but I think I’ll struggle with that. I keep hearing “it’s an honor to even have the stats to apply in the first place,” and that’s true, but I wouldn’t have made it my first choice if I didn’t truly want to go there. I have some really good schools on my backup list so I’m sure everything will work out, but it’s going to sting and take a while for the motivation to kick back in. I’m just being honest.

@coll2021 Thanks for that advice man…really appreciated!

How do we know the day is December 8th? Haha sorry, did someone get an email or something?

@jvan77 The date is on the alumni calendar + many students received that information from their interviews

When do you think we will get emails from Cornell about the decisions?

@cotopaxi You are absolutely right! It is gonna be sting for a while. But hey! Who won’t face failure in their lifetime? Even the Good-Ole American superman has his defeat! If Cornell rejects me, maybe it will be sad for a while, but I will make sure that 10 years later, I can laugh it out and says "yep! I was rejected by Cornell. So what? "

Do the Alumni interviewers submit a write up to admission? My Alumni interviewer just reached out to me today. I hope we meet soon so the interview could possible help my application… :-/

CU Admissions will send an email to all ED applicants a few days ahead with a link and a time that decisions will be viewable in the admissions portal. IIRC, last year, they sent the email on Monday or so for a Thursday 1800 EST release. I would fully expect same this time around.

@PMotorradM Your question has been asked a lot on this thread. Here are 3 quick things to know:

  1. The “interview” is not an interview. Just a chance for an alum to answer your questions and promote going to Cornell. They are non-evaluative, meaning they theoretically don’t affect the outcome.
  2. Yes, they do submit a write-up. They only get 250 words and they either say nice things, negative things, or literally type “nothing new to report.” These write-ups are due December 1st for ED so you have exactly 36 hours to have your conversation.
  3. Don’t wait for them to get back to you. Pick up the phone and call. Besides, it will make a good impression if you show you’re willing to call. I had mine on the phone. No need to meet.

@PMotorradM My interview was yesterday, it was really low key and chill-- I wouldn’t worry about it.

@Shrilkshire @cotopaxi
Thanks for the info. We just set up a time to talk over the phone tomorrow. Should be fun. Can’t wait!

I have a question @cotopaxi , according to this official page, it says that Cornell only has official interviews for Hotel and Architecture students. Will there be interviews for Engineering students?
http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/application-checklist/applicant-checklist-tips

@reformedman I applied for engineering and still had an interview, but it was just an alumni interview. I think Hotel and arch applicants have a more official interview in comparison.

Yes, Hotel and Arch applicants’ interviews are more evaluative and carry more weight in the admission process

@Shrilkshire My S hasn’t received any request for an interview. Should we be worried about this?
:frowning:
Approximately what date did you receive the request? Was it by email?
