Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@hamsamcam17 CALS

@IBsleeping gotcha. I know every school says they’re holistic and in reality aren’t, but I genuinely believe cornell is. I hired a college advisor because I’m the first in my family to be going through this and she’s actually an admission officer for Princeton and she has friends who do admissions at cornell and she told me its like a different world there.

@hamsamcam17 that reassures alot! thanks :slight_smile:

So I’ve been silently reading this thread for the past couple weeks because I applied ED for mechanical engineering and I wanted to say I know someone pointed it out earlier, but everyone here has been so nice and kind to eachother and I think that’s truly what society should strive to be like. I wish everyone the best of luck and I hope all of you get in where you want to go most! But, yeah the suspense is driving me nuts but regardless of the worrying there’s nothing we can do now and whatever happens whether we get in or not there is always another better path to take and somehow everything will work out in the end for all of us whether we get accepted or not in exactly1 day, 20 hours, 46 minutes and 25 seconds :slight_smile:

but with every second the percentage changes…

@shebelongsinny @oliconlon Right now I plan on just opening it ASAP, whether in front of classmates or not because 1) I’m impatient LOL 2) I think either way (if I get accepted, deferred, or denied) I’ll cry.
When the time comes, though, if the pressure builds up I might just ask the teacher to go to the bathroom or something and check privately. I’m sure teachers are understanding (at least mine are-- they even told the class to tell them if they want time to check decisions privately), so maybe ask them ahead of time if you can go outside briefly to check for your ED results.

Does anybody know how applying to go in undecided affects my chances of admission? My guidance counselor says that it’s better to go in undecided then to go in with a major you don’t like and change it later…

@shep888 tons of kids go into college every year undecided, i think it only matters if you are applying to a school that is specific to what you want to do. I applied to HumEc beacuse I already know what I want to study and have a career in. But for CAS I think its okay to be undecided

@shebelongsinny OK that’s good then considering CAS is where I applied! :smiley: thank you!

@shep888 I think it depends on what college you apply to (Im assuming CAS?) Anyways, based on what I’ve heard, Cornell is very keen on finding people who “fit”, and I’m interpreting that as finding people who have done things in their school based on what their truly passionate about. Therefore, if your passionate about something, you should probably major in that field. Furthermore, if you have multiple interests, Cornell does an amazing job of creating interdisciplinary majors. For example, I was thinking of applying undecided to CAS because I am interested in both business and medicine. However, I ended up applying to Human Ecology with HBHS because I thought that school would be really good to tie my interests together.

Anyways, any advice from this thread is to be taken with a grain of salt, since none of us are admission officers or counselors (I think?). I could be completely wrong, and your counselor may be right, but I’m just telling you stuff based on what I heard from people on this thread and my sister who goes to Cornell.

Anyone here have legacy? sibling or parent? I want to get a feel for how many legacies are on this thread lol.

@vcq7890 I am super passionate about both science and music, so applying to CAS seemed to be my best fit!! ;:wink:
