@MysteriousDude Thank you for this response. Unfortunately, I have not applied for any other institutes. I decided to go for Cornell because of their stats in mathematics/physics and also because they do not require SAT (as I happen not to have it). I thought the financial aid would not be as hard to get as you just said, so that is a little downfall for me.
Does anyone know how much a rec letter matters to Cornell especially ILR?
@Mastodon97 3rd thing they look at I believe. Its purpose is to give more insight on your personality– it hits parts that the essay couldn’t.
@ILRie18 3rd thing, as in after grades and essays right?
@Mastodon97 Exactly so.
Ok guys, long time lurker, first time poster.
I consider myself to be a non-traditional applicant for whatever it’s worth. I graduated from high school in 2011 with a 3.6 GPA. Went straight to Community College with no sense of direction and did very poorly…we’re talking like a 2.3 GPA. After 3 semesters I dropped out and got a job at a software company. After a year and a half I was inspired to re-enroll as a business-finance student after witnessing our company get acquired by a private equity firm. Long story short the company went through a lot of changes, I got promoted, and have earned a 3.85 GPA since my re-enrollment…4.0 if looking at just my business pre-reqs. I’m now 23 years old and have been at the company for about 4 and 1/2 years.
I sent two letters from professors, one from a Cornell Alumnus who I’ve worked with the past 4 years, and one from a director at the private equity firm that owns our company - he was able to talk about my involvement with the firms initiatives and how closely we worked together.
FYI – applied to AEM. Application was submitted in January.
Not asking for you to “chance me” since that wouldn’t be realistic to ask. Just throwing my stats out there.
Hey guys, I was born, raised, and went to elementary - high school in the US, but went to a Canadian university. Do you know if this has any kind of bearing on my chances?
@jinzo000 Welcome! I know that Cornell looks a lot more than stats, and your background seems like you have a great shot.
@MysteriousDude Cornell admissions are need-blind for all applicants. I’m not sure if they used to be need-aware, but they aren’t anymore. Google it
Has anyone been accepted yet?
@lexluther96 I don’t think anybody’s going to be getting notified until at least the first week of April.
@MysteriousDude Where does it say Cornell is need aware?
They are need blind.
Hey guys so I submitted my cornell app on march 15 with the fee waiver through the common app. But my portal says that no waiver has been received. I called undergrad admissions during hours but it just went to an automated voice message saying they wont be able to provide info on application materials. Any help?
@genieforuboi they’ve been really busy with all the materials they’ve been receiving due to the deadline. My transcripts got lost in the mail so I had to resend them, but it got there March 1. Still not updated on the portal tho. I did a waiver too and when I called them, they asked for my college advisor to email them and confirm in my behalf that I qualify for their waiver. You might want to do that since the commonapp did say some colleges ask for it.
I’m transferring from a community college in american Samoa. I got my AS in Health science, and I plan to pursure Biochemistry. My GPA was 3.85 and my high school GPA was 3.98 (both unweighted). My sat scores aren’t that great tbh, I got a 1730. But I’m hoping my GPA, essays, and ECs pull it up. My ECs mostly include volunteer work at the surgical clinic, Alliance against domestic violence, camp courageous, sponsoring a child from house of refuge…also part of various clubs such as journalism, psychology, students against destructive decisions, future business leaders of america… Hoping for the best!
@Mastodon97 Thank you!
Anyone else on cornelltransfer.com? If not, I’d recommend checking it out. Lots of relevant info and you can ask questions directly to Reba McCutcheon - Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
@Mastodon97 Do you know when everyone will be notified by? Like the final release date
@lexluther96
From reading last year’s transfer thread, they notified people starting around April 12 and throughout May. It also seemed like around April 21 is when Cornell sends out a lot of rejection letters to transfer applicants. There were also a few that received admission in June. It really all depends on when you submitted your application, when all your materials got processed, and if you ask them to prioritize your application because you have a deposit due on May 1 or something.
@CornellAEMplease Need-blind transfer admissions only applies to U.S. citizens. International transfers are subject to a need-aware policy. Just look it up on Google.
How many of your guy’s application checklist is complete?
