Cornell Financial Aid To-Do List Help!

Hello! We submitted our financial aid information to Cornell on-time and everything, IDOC and all, but on the financial aid to-do list it's saying that my parents' W2 forms were not included and neither was the Finanical Aid Application Certification.

What W2 forms did Cornell need? We submitted the ones that were in their 2013 taxes, but apparently they need "employer-issued" ones? Does this mean that every school I submitted the IDOC to needs this information too? And the Aid Certification? That should have been included in the IDOC packet. I know it was in there, but they are saying it wasn't? I plan to call tomorrow but was hoping to get help tonight if anyone else had this happen?

Thanks!

Ours says the same thing, and our IDOC is no longer on the list. I read the web site, and it said to submit everything through IDOC, so I really don’t get it. I need to call or email and I suggest you do the same.

Wow, OP, I have the exact same problem! Everything was submitted on time, but I just checked the application, and it told me that I need “employer-issued” W2 forms too as well as the certification that I sent with the Certification…

Maybe it’s happening to a bunch of people? If you call, would you mind letting us known what they say? Otherwise, a bunch of us will have to call.

Same problem here. They say they’re missing parent’s W2s and signed certification forms that we included with the IDOC packet.

Wow! Okay, haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one having this problem!
I made a board on the Financial Aid forum to ask what the “employer-issued” W2’s were, and they are direct copies of parents’ W2’s, not the W2 made from tax-software that is submitted with taxes. I’m definitely going to call and ask about those, but from what I’m understanding, they want photocopies of the exact W2’s that your parents received from their employer.

But with the certification form, that is really frustrating, since I know I put it in my IDOC packet. I don’t know how to send that one, since it was supposed (and was!) with the IDOC packet, but I’m going to guess that we’ll have to send another copy directly to Cornell too.

I am definitely calling once they open to find out exactly what they need still, so I will let you know what they tell me to do.

I emailed them about this and they fixed the problem the same day.

My daughter’s FA portal has the same thing, although IDOC confirmed they received our docs.
@triassiic, what email address did you use?

I called them and they fixed the certification for me, since that was just a signature thing and it didn’t update correctly or something. I would email or call about that if you have that problem!

With the W2, they need to be photocopies of your parents official W2 from last year, the one their employer gave them. Upload on the finacial aid website, fax, or send through mail these photocopies (and include your name and DOB). That’s what I was told. I hope that helps!!

I called them also and they’re fixing it. They said the W2s were not next to each other in the pile, so they missed it (although that is how I remember placing them together) and the cert form was there. Oh boy, they could get barraged with calls and emails.

My financial to-do list says I still need to do everything (FAFSA, IDOC, aid forms). I was deferred ED and submitted everything then. Do I need to resubmit everything? Or is this just a mistake? Any other deferred Ed’ers having this problem? Thanks

@2018dad Google Cornell Financial Aid and there will be an email in the contacts section at the bottom of the page.

@ mtgd123: I did not apply ED, so I am not 100% sure, but I don’t think you could have had access to the FAFSA and IDOC back at the ED time? FAFSA opened on January 1, IDOC opened early February. You need to send in your parent’s completed 2013 tax returns to IDOC, not the 2012 ones.

I hope that helps!! And again, I did not apply ED so I’m not sure of the process, so I could be completely wrong! I would definitely call Cornell to see what they want, though. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what you still need to send in!

@mtgd123. When you applied ED, you were supposed to submit the CSS Profile and tax returns from the previous year by Nov 1st. Then, by Feb 15th, you were to complete the FAFSA and submit other 2013 requested paperwork through IDOC. In my opinion, much or all of this should be done by parents if you are a dependent. It’s a lot of work and mostly based on parent’s income and financial situation.

I emailed FA and got a response that all our financial aid documents are up-to-date even though we had two rows on the needed financial aid docs on their site (son’s W2 and our 2013 taxes). So their site is not accurate. It was nice to know the IDOC actually worked, though. It seems like a pretty dicey process just mailing in all those documents in a big envelope and hoping all our schools get them.

How many days did it take Cornell to response to your inquiry? My daughter emailed Cornell’s FA 2 days ago and they haven’t response yet. She got the aotomated reply that they received the email bla bla bla, but no actuall reply yet.

It took 2 or 3 days. I got that automated reply right away also. Note that the reply from them looked almost exactly like the automated reply until you open it and there was a real person’s response in it, so if she gets a second one, it is probably your answer.

After creating a CSS Profile on the College Board Website you will log in and complete a very long financial profile. Once you submit the profile you should receive a message instructing you to submit the IDOC forms. The IDOC forms are tailored towards your answers and provided to you by the CSS Service. You will need to print your Cover Page, a non-tax filer page (if you did not work, or do not plan to file a tax return), Verification Worksheet, and include the following forms which are not located on the CSS Profile site (Cornell’s Certification Form- located under financial aid forms 2014/2015 on the financial aid website) and a copy of your parents income tax returns, W2’s and business schedules if necessary. Once your have printed and completed all of the forms listed above you will mail to the IDOC service address listed on the COVER SHEET. It seems like a lot of work but, you are basically submitting your financial statements to a legal college service. I would suggest overnighting your materials at this point. After the IDOC service receive your information they will electronically submit to Cornell. It takes 5-7 business days for them to process, however, your information will be dated upon receipt.

Good luck with that. When I called the FA office a few weeks ago, they told me it’s fine as long as they receive the IDOC packet by March 1st (not postmarked). If anyone hasn’t sent by now, I would call to make sure you’re not wasting your time.

I mailed IDOC documents 2/14. IDOC confirmed that they have received it on 2/19, yet we still have 4 rows of to do lists. We emailed Cornell and after about 4 days we got this response:

It is not too late to submit the REQUIRED forms. Regardless of the due date if you need financial aid the forms must be submitted.
