Cornell Food

not that this is going to affect my decision.. haha

but today I heard that their food sucks....I thought it would be really good.. o.o well the brochure thing made it sound really nice haha.. those attending/attended.. what do you think?

If you eat enough of Cornell’s Dining Food, you’ll end up eating the same kinds of foods.
And eating the same kinds of foods suck.
On Parent’s Weekend and certain events, the cooks may cook something special, for a day or so. But that’s it. Food will suck.

so, what kind of food does Cornell offer I’m wondering?

I really like good food. But yeah the prospect of eating the same food does suck, no matter how highly ranked it is in the country. And plus one cant go to the city for food because NYC is 5 hours away :/

My daughter is a foodie. She never complained about food at Cornell when she was a freshman, I am bit surprised about people complaining about food here. She used to get dim sum on Sun, freshly grilled chicken and salad bar. I ate there once or twice, I thought the food was better than other schools we have visited. Maybe more current students could comment on this.

I like the food quite a bit! it offers all kinds of different foods, really. freshman year there are two dining halls with grills, salads, pizzas, main courses, cereals, fruits. RPCC has some kind of thing where you order your own noodles (I never tried it) and you can made your own sandwich at Appel. there are similar choices in west campus dining.
I honestly think there’s enough variety that you don’t have to eat the same food again and again unless you are a picky eater. if I were eating on my own or at home, I’d eat the same foods repeatedly more often! when I go to the store I mostly get the things I ran out of, not some new innovative list of foods every time. with the dining hall, if some new dish turns up one night, I can just try it without any investment.

As opposed to the real world, where you will typically eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch every workday, and maybe rotate between 20 different options for dinner?

The food is actually really good here, especially compared to most other schools. The dining halls try to change it up and will offer different selections, but if you get tired of it you can always use your BRBs at a la carte places. There are also plenty of restaurants in Collegetown or the Commons for those weekends when you want to go out to eat.

students who say cornell’s food sucks do not know how much the food at other schools suck. cornell has one of the highest rated dining among colleges in the US… it’s really quite good. compared to other colleges, trust me, it’s one of the best. there are always other restaurants you can order from, like countryangel said.

Except restaurants around here are usually pretty overpriced and terrible.

North Campus food is alright, but the dining halls are too overcrowded for me. West campus food is pretty crappy, but the atmosphere is better.

you do have a point about the crowding on north. that can be somewhat annoying.

I like the atmosphere on West better but I also think the food it totally fine.

Cornell’s reputation is actually having great food so I’m not sure where these complaints are coming form. The food at Cornell is much better than at most other colleges

i can attest…food was good on campus until the recession…now appel is closed on the weekends? talk about CROWDED!!!

why there havent been more complaints is beyond me…

they even changed up the ivy room (brought in some professionals to see how to boost sales)

food should not really factor in your decision at this point.

Having the best college food is like having the best special olympics team.

Sadly.

cornell does have good home cooked stuff…

but i’m sure other campuses are more appealing if they have fast food chains on campus…who wouldnt kill for a taco bell that’s actually accessible without a car?!

Anyone know the current food ranking for Cornell? I remember seeing 2 years ago that we were ranked 7th in the country. Just goes to show how delicious our food is! =D

But anyway, back to the point, I’ve been to other universities and Ivies to eat, but I’ve gotta say our food is wayyyy better

I wouldn’t. Taco Bell is garbage.

Any of the stuff you can get at a fast food restaurant (pizza, burgers, sandwiches, Chinese, etc), you can find at a Cornell dining hall daily.

the current ranking on the Princeton Review website has Cornell as 9th in food.

lol @ taco bell being garbage…

taco bell = better than any taco bar on north campus (serious)

cornell food has gotten worse, fact!

I’m afraid you are in the minority on this one.

Sounds like at least some of the food on campus is getting much better. I always thought the quality of the beef was suspect:
