Cornell Guaranteed Transfer Accepted - Ask me Any Question Related to GT

Hi nugg, I welcome you to the transfer community at Cornell, but you'll be hearing a lot more of that during Orientation.

Just for everyone to know...housing is REALLY REALLY behind. Some of the transfer RAs didn't even get their housing yet, with that said still be on top of housing to make sure you get into where you want to live.

Back to nugg... there will be parking for transfers, i believe it is $660 to park, it is that high to discourage students from bringing cars. If you don't mind a little walking to get your car, you can email some of the frats to ask them for a parking spot at a discounted price. If you want to walk to central campus it's about 15 minutes, but there is a bus that takes you to central campus every 10 minutes, but if the weather is nice, I would rather walk and enjoy the campus. The closest dining hall is appel, and it is 5 minutes walking distance. It is located by the hellen newman gym, and the rawling greens. The other is RPCC, and it's about 10 minutes walking distance.

thanks for the reply. i think i'll probably end up paying the 660 since it seems like most of the frats are at the opposite end of campus.

now that i know the gym (that's the new one right?) is near hasbrouck i'd be pretty bummed if i end up not living there

Welcome, nugg! Thanks so much for your message about your GT experience so far. I collect GT messages and appreciate each and every person who shares his/her experience on CC. It's so interesting that you really had to think again about whether or not to accept the GT, even after qualifying, or whatever, with the requirements after freshman year. Maybe distance from home was a factor for you? Three hours vs. 3 minutes--that is a difference. But as you say, you'll be able to go up to your freshman campus on breaks and see everyone. It will be neat to find out if you feel a bit like you have 2 campus "homes" now!

Thanks again for joining in the discussion, and best of luck in Ithaca just a few short months from now!

hellen newman gym is not the new gym, that's on west campus, but its gym is still very nice, it even has a bowling alley in it.

Ya Mom it seems he had that symptom that happens to most GTs. I seriously considered staying because I Love my College friends. But I kept having to slap myself back into the reality that Cornell is a much better school and I can make just as good of friends there. I'm REALLY happy with my decision, but it makes me sad to think about leaving my old friends. You just have to push through the sadness of leaving because its to bigger and better places and you'll make friends at the new place. Cornell '10 Yeah!!!

Figgy--I'm going to remember what you're saying about the sadness of leaving a year from now in case my S goes through that. Thanks!

Ya it hits u like a brick some days. You are just like "Screw it I'm just going to follow my heart and stay here with my great friends". You really convince urself for a minute or two every now and then. But then u just realize that Cornell is where you are destined to be (esp cuz I went to the college I went to as a stepping stone to Cornell). Hard stuff. Completely worth it though...I'm really happy I had the opportunity to meet the people I did.

agreed^^^. I feel the same way! just think how lucky we are tho, to have met such incredible people along the way... and I'm sure next year will prove the same! ya know how they say as one chapter closes a new one opens... i think it's just like that...ahhhhh just think about all the great opportunities! leaving people behind makes me REALLY sad, but at the same time all the great things the future holds makes me feel certain that i have made the right choice!

Anyone still waiting on Financial Aid?

How generous is Cornell? :)

If you're still waiting, you might want to call and check that you have all the forms in. I forgot to send something in.

can you change your major before you enter cornell?
for instance, if i am transfer student that applied as a PAM major (HumEc) can i switch to a Bio and Society major (HumEc) for the upcoming fall semester?
if so, how?
thanks

When applying to Cornell as a GT, what do you need to send them? Do they request your high school transcript? What does the GT application entail? How long is it? Who in your previous in your previous institution needs to sign it?

GT is a status the admissions office assigns you. you don't apply for it!

I know, I am a GT. I am talking about the actual application process in the following year after you receive it.

so are u treated well as a gt transfer student?
or do they not care about you...

Has anyone, who is a science major, activated their guaranteed transfer and actually transferred to CALS? If so, were you able to secure all of Cornell's classes for your major? Also, what was your major?

wavebrk088......do i know you from somewhere? are you from florida?

im surprised this thread is still around.

why, does my name sound familiar?

ok gotcha....i graduated with a friend who's aim sn was exactly the same as your CC sn....so that got me wondering

haha nahh man, sorry....my aim sn has always been my real initials and a couple numbers....but thats really a coincidence though haha....does he go to cornell as well?
