I just got a MacBook, and I'm trying to set it up so that the mac email program can receive my Cornell e-mail, but I'm having a little trouble. I found a help page for it online from CIT, but it seems to use a different version of the mail client, and the settings it gives me don't seem to work (and it tells me not to leave the password box blank, which I think is weird). I've tried several times, but can't get the settings to work just right. Has anyone successfully set up their Mac email client to receive/send their mail? What settings did you use to do this?

Yes...I did and I followed the guidelines that CIT provides.

if you're using Mail, then all you have to do is follow the Thunderbird instructions and place the correct values in the correct fields. I'd personally stick with thunderbird, because it is a better tool than mail.

i have a feeling it is b/c you dont have the bear access installed...

I took Bear Access off of my computer after I graduated and I still receive my Cornell mail via Apple mail with no problem.

i've tried a lot of times too and failed each time.
BTW how important is it to install bear access?

Well honestly, now that JTF is all online I don't see the point of downloading Bear Access.

Btw...if Mac users need help setting up CU e-mail to work through Apple mail feel free to PM me...I'll do the best I can.

hey peeople. I also had problem with it Apple Mail, but I contacted CIT and someone gave me a few suggestions which helped. you need to set ur Authentication to 'Password' not Kerberos 5 (don't put in a password). You need to check SSL and use the port 995. After you save it, it should work and prompt you for a password.

it worked!
thanks so much bt073011 !
