SO I got into the George Washington honors program and I paid my deposit and I was getting mentally set but then Cornell takes me off the waitlist. The price is going to very similar and I'm interested in communications.

Here's my rundown:

Gw: Better location, City=more fun, Easier workload/more favorable grading curves (my brother goes and says its not too bad), better connections (DC is great for that stuff), less greek life (not a huge fan)

Cornell: Ivy league prestige, better academics, better food, better housing(for my desires), high caliber of students

Am i missing anything? What does everyone think?

Well it seems like you prefer GW to Cornell. It seems as if the ivy league status and prestige are the only things you like about Cornell but If the cost is going to be similar it will be very hard to turn down Cornell.

If we accept your listing as accurate – then it seems you’re saying that Cornell is the better school, but you think you’ll have a better time at GW.

If so (and since cost is not an issue) – What is your principal reason for going to college?.

Skyjunior, big city does not equal more fun for college students. In fact, the opposite is almost always true for the vast majority of college-aged people. Ithaca is not big, but students occupy it nicely.

GWU is a good school to be sure, but it has no campus while Cornell has a great campus.

What connections are you talking about? Students don’t just rub elbows with DC’s elite and power brokers. It may be easier to secure an internship, but Cornell does well on that front too.

And grading at Cornell is blown out of proportion. If you major in Architecture or Engineering, then I agree that academics are intense. In most Arts and Science majors, Cornell is no different from most top universities.

Honestly, unless cost of attendance is an issue…or unless you have visited Cornell and really hated the environment, this is a no-brainer.

^^^I would have to agree – I’d go to Cornell in a heartbeat unless there is something about the school you don’t like. It can be difficult to switch your mindset after you send a deposit in to a good school. Answer this question honestly - if you got into both schools at the start, would you have gone to Cornell? If the answer is yes, then it move to Cornell right now. If GW was always higher on your list, then stay there. Either way, don’t second guess yourself.

For once, I agree with Alexandre. Students should only use fit as a criterion when deciding amongst peer schools and GWU is no peer of Cornell. I would pack my bags for Ithaca without thinking too hard.
