I'm thinking of applying for the POST program at Cornell!

I'm not used to very intense community service, but I do want to be more involved. Could someone who has gone to one of these programs tell me if this program is extremely intense? Do they welcome all kinds of people?

Also, does everyone get along well, and do the friends you make here remain your friends for the next four years?

Thanks! :)

DEFINITELY DO POST! its really laid back, and many of the people who do it didn’t do a lot of community service in high school. there are so many different types of people, and its really nice to be able to meet ~50ish kids before even stepping onto campus. you also get to explore different areas of ithaca, plus you have friends from all colleges (as well as the upperclass leaders). hands down one of the best decisions i made in my cornell career. obviously you will like some people more than others and stay close with them, but everyone is at least friendly and will say hi to you around campus.

I’m curious to know how competitive it is. My D thinks she’ll apply but hasn’t written her essays yet. Is it first come, first served? Perhaps not since the application requires 3 (short) essays. Do you know when kids find out if they’re in?

Yes, everyone gets along well in POST, and do the friends you make here at least for the first year, some remain your friends for more years.
Another benefit is the POST show you the campus and city, it will quickly turn you into a Cornelian just in a week.
