I got a letter saying I am admitted as a Cornell Presidential Research Scholar, and get a 4000/year loan reduction and 8000total stipend for research. I though the ivies don't give scholarships. Has anyone gotten this or heard about it before?

Did you do alot of research in HS? to what extent? Awards?

Nope, I have never done research ever. I did express interest in my what do you want to come to Cornell for essay.

i am a pres. research scholar, but i also was an intel semi-finalist.

odd ,u never did resarch?

sometimes i swear these things are given out randomly. I'd expect them to be given to students who already have alot of research experience behind their belts.

I'm a Cornell Undergraduate research fellow (i think that's the title) where i get paid with cash rather than financial aid, but i had to apply for that and find a professor to support and write essays and all of this other crap.

Congrats, this is one of the better (if not the best) award you can get. This isn't free money per se as you have to earn it (by doing lots and lots of research while you're at Cornell).

did u have at least have good stats, it really doesn't make sense

cornell has an INTEL FINALIST in its class, and he isn't a pres. research scholar, and there are a BUNCH of intel semis not in it either, i have met a couple of siemens ppl, none are either, very strange

I remember talking to the Cornell adcom in HE and she said that presidential research scholarships are usually given out to people who express interest in research through their academic essays.

I received the Meinig Family National Scholar award. All of the "scholarly awards" are merit based programs. After being accepted to the program (i think 2% of the student body to each of the three programs, each program with specific characteristics and requirements), scholarship is awarded based on financial need (up to $4,000). So, technically, its still need based.

um...i didn't apply for FA, and i receive absolutely not a DIME from cornell for this program or anything, if ur on FA, it does give u so some doe
