Cornell RD Class of 2016 Discussion Thread

I would like to know this too

do you mind me asking what the other two documents are?

I turned in a FAFSA to Cornell but then decided not to do the profile/tax return stuff. Does that mean I’m not considered for Fin Aid and that I get that small admission boost for showing that I can pay myself for college?

No it actually does not help or hurt you when you apply for financial aid. Cornell is Need Blind (that’s the beauty of the ivies). It is purely disadvantageous to not apply for financial aid unless you are in the bracket of people that have such high incomes that you know you will not get aid - in which case you will probably get a loan that you do not need.

I received an email from UMich (to which I have already been admitted) asking for our tax returns for verification, also saying the deadline was June 1. The next day they sent me another email saying I had a financial aid award estimate. Not sure if that means much, but it might mean they already have an award estimate for you and need verification (which would hint that you’re admitted? Why would they waste their time in FA with kids they’re not going to admit)

monkeydudexD, no problem, they want student’s and parents’ IRS transcript :)

Yeah sorry but Cornell gives no such hints. The only hints are the likely letters.

did anyone apply for the architecture program for cornell? did anyone get accepted into the program for RD?

Yeah…but decisions would be available on the 29th…

@Colene is correct- the fafsa verif (request for irs transcripts) is a federal regulation. this year colleges must verif 30% of fafsas. sadly, it does not mean you are in…it only means that either the dept of education or the college finaid office flagged your fafsa for further review…

My financial aid “to do” list changed, to now asking for tax returns for verification, also saying the deadline is 05/07/12

Congratulations KrabbyPatty! umm I took the ACT and got a 30 which is alright I guess. Had pretty good ec’s and gpa/ap’s though

I got a 30 too! Pretty decent EC’s and national awards to make up for my non-36. Are you guys applying A&S?

anything going on with CALS? i’m seeing likely letters sent to engineering, acceptances to hotel and ilr, phone calls to human ecoology…but no activity with CALS. is this typical?!

CAS here. So, to make sure they haven’t sent them yet. No one from CAS has received a likely- right?

@HB2012 same here! Which college did you apply to? I applied to IRL, regular.

Also, for those who were accepted regular to ILR or Hotel, could you post what your financial aid portal says?

Like mine says:
Item List
To Do Item Due Date Institution Administrative Function
Federal Verification Wksht 05/07/2012 Cornell University Financial Aid
IRS TranscriptParent 05/07/2012 Cornell University Financial Aid
IRS TranscriptStudent 05/07/2012 Cornell University Financial Aid

Laughingly, that is exactly what mine says. I applied to CAS regular.

I hope it means something good.

@Laughingly, I was accepted RD Hotel and my portal has the exact same item list.

I got the letter and a phone call but the application status still says “your application has been forwarded…”

Mine says the same thing as Laughingly… The form does look like something for accepted students and the due date is next month…

I was looking at the online form provided by Cornell for the verification and it required a Cornell ID# but obviously we don’t have one yet so how would we even be able to complete this? Is anyone willing to call admissions/FA to see if they could get their Cornell ID# to fill out this form? :)
