I’m applying Regular Decision to the Hotel School, but I am also considering the ILR school. Does anyone know the difference between the two schools. Also if I have no Hospitality experience, but can relate some of my work experience to hospitality, do I still have a chance at the Hotel School?
Also do the decisions for these schools come out earlier, I heard somewhere that these decisions come out sometime in February/March as opposed to Ivy Day.
Cornell decisions come out at once. Hospitality work experience is important for the Hotel School. ILR and Hotel have very, very different curriculums. I suggest you do more digging and look at the courses offered to see what’s a better fit.
@momofsenior1 — I don’t know when this changed exactly. ILR used to send Likely Letters, back in the day…I won’t say when that day was exactly, but I remember my guidance counselor’s happy surprise when it arrived. I think the shift to decisions as opposed to likely letters may be relatively recent, but not sure.
Hotel doesn’t send likely letters but they do send decisions early - I got my decision on March 2nd or something versus March 20th etc. Also, you don’t need any direct hospitality experience. I never worked at a restaurant or a hotel or even a retail store and I am a proud Hotelie.
Does everyone who gets accepted get a letter in early march or are there some students who are notified of their acceptances to the hotel school on Ivy Day?
@Kaur16 I’ve definitely heard of people who are offered the opportunity to apply for Transfer admission to the hotel school, and I’ve heard of people definitely being offered waitlists. I’m not sure about acceptances, but if Cornell is your top choice, then there is definitely a chance to attend if it’s your dream
@asianboy3155 I think SHA sends only some acceptances out earlier than Ivy day, so you still have a shot. Don’t lose hope, just be patient! You’re in the final stretch!
