If we were excepted ED, when do we find out if we received one of Cornell's special awards (Meinig National Scholars, Cornell Tradition Scholars, Cornell Presidential Research Scholars)?

You probably would have found out already only if they are sending out notifications for ED applicants, towerpumpkin was notified already for the engineering scholar award. However he was very qualified and a double-legacy so they might have given it to him early for that, and maybe most will get it in the spring. If you are really unsure you could call or email Cornell.

Yeah...they may determine who gets these awards based on the entire pool of students.

I'm pretty sure it depends on each individual award...

What? What are these special awards?

Ranges, different scholarships to grants for research. The Cornell Presidential Research Scholars provides $10,000 in research money I believe.

Is there anything I should have done extra in my application or anything like that to be considered for selection?

bump

I didn't do anything and I got an engineering scholarship thingy...

can someone list all thos special awards in an order (i mean i know all of them are really good, but i just wanna see which awards are more well-known, providing more $$ and benefits, and more pretigious)

just wonder..

(is there more awards than Meinig National Scholars, Cornell Tradition Scholars, Cornell Presidential Research Scholars, and Cornell Engineering Awards?)

I got a letter early last week telling me that I was chosen for the Cornell Tradition. I didn't do anything extra for my application, actually, I didn't know what it as until I received the package.

I also received a likely letter mid-March telling me that I was nominated for some program.

My daughter is in Tradition. She's completing her first year & I'm still not clear what it is but-- I do know: She received a $600/year Book Award. As we're not eligible for financial aid, she got the minimum amount which is $600. She also MUST work to stay in the program. She was able to find a campus job within the first few weeks of school. Cornell has a student employment website which she used to find her job. She's required to work 200 hours Fresh. year and 250 hours as an upperclassman. I believe the Tradition status gives her equal footing to job access with kids who are on work-study. Many campus jobs must give preference to work-study/Tradition kids before they can hire anyone else (I think) It also gives some funding if she takes an unpaid internship, but we haven't quite figured out how that works. Just remember you do have to work 200 hours/ year in order to stay in the Tradition so you need to decide whether the program is good for you.

I got another letter today telling me that I have also been selected as a Dean's Scholar in addition to the Cornell Tradition. Apparently we get special advising, some book award money, and can apply for additional grants for research or summer programs.

Anybody else in the same boat?

I got the Meinig Scholar. They're giving me $4,000 in scholarships each year

Notifications have already gone out for those who were chosen for the Commitment awards (whether you were RD or ED). Theres nothing special that you can do to be considered; reciepents are nominated by their college based on their qualifications from their application.
