is there a place to check the textbook price sold in cornell. i know theres a booksite on cornell store website but that doesn't show the actual price of the book sold in the store. thanks

the booklist you print when you get to campus will have new and used prices on it

Buying from the Cornell store will generally cost you a lot more than buying from Amazon, Ebay, etc. but it may be of some convenience to you.

I ended up buying most of my textbooks through the Cornell store. Then again, I never had a whole lot of big text books, rather many small novels that were $19 at the cornell store or $16 online (not worth the wait, paying for shipping, etc).

I usually took the book list from Cornell and matched up prices with Barnes and Noble. Since I had a membership...books from B&N were often less expensive. For the most part...I bought textbooks from B&N and small novel-type books from the bookstore.

im only wondering because i'll be taking 6 science classes including some hardcore science ones. we all know how much science textbooks cost -_-. borders is having a sale so that's why i want to compare prices between cornell store and other sites/stores to see if i should buy it now.

doesn't the bookstore have the buyback program though?

They have buyback at the end of the semester. If the book is one that will be used the following semester...you get 50% of the new price. If the book won't be used again...you often get little money for it. I once got $1.50 for a $30.00 book. Word of advice: for courses only offered once a year...hang on to the book anyway. If the book will be used again you can sell it back at the end of the next semester and get 50% of the new price.

The store will buy the book from you..even if you bought it elsewhere.

do you guys know why cornell doesn't buy back psych 101 books?

i'm guessing b/c the book for psych101 is written by the professor...

In some cases the book cannot be bought be because the professor decided to go to a new book, the book is a loose one that needs a binder (like the micro lab book), it's a workbook that would have extensive writing in it...there are many reasons.

Wouldn't it be very difficult to buy books on-line because you choose most of your classes a week or so before they actually start?

not if you figure out which classes you want before you get on campus....

oh just a heads up for you freshman...some writing seminars and other classes may require you to purchase a packet of readings not sold at the cornell store...

it would be sold at a local print shop in collegetown or something....

some books can be purchased outside of cornell (general biology, calculus) but some specific majors/schools order textbooks specifically made for cornell...
