I did go to DHW last year. They actually sent the e-mail AFTER the snail-mail got here.

Checking my e-mail, I got the e-mail invite on March 14th.

I did go to DHW last year. They actually sent the e-mail AFTER the snail-mail got here.

Checking my e-mail, I got the e-mail invite on March 14th.

I got one this year, likely letter first, then email, then snail mail.
And yea I did get into other top 20 universities.

Aww...that makes me sad. I might not get invited then. But just in case, I'll keep checking both mail services. I'll give up hope on Saturday. Lol.

Thanks guys!

I haven't gotten in to a school really anywhere near Cornell (The highest-ranked school I've gotten into is USC), but I still got the invite to go after my likely. Theory disproved.

Yea, don't worry Plainsman, just because your D was not invited doesn't mean she won't get in. it probably more means that's she's not invited to DHW.

And you don't technically need an invite. Try emailing them early(and this is to those ppl who said they got in ED but are too poor to go to Cornell) and maybe they'll let you go anyway. But I suspect you're not invited because they already know you have to go to Cornell. It's the others they want to persuade.

Yeah, I second that.

I know people who weren't necessarily invited last year, but heard about it and wanted to go. They CALLED the offices and were able to work something out. :)

best of luck.

chendrix!

That's exactly what I did today! I called and spoke with the director of DHW and he added me to the wait list. After the registration period is up, which is around the beginning of April, he said he would call/email me about open spots! Persistence pays! =D

I can't wait until April!!! -crosses fingers-

so if DHW = accepted... why didn't i get a likely letter

suffice it to say you don't need both?

lol i guess that would be a waste of trees so do invitees get likely letters

I got a letter from Cornell last Thursday saying that I will be offered admission to Cornell.
Then on Saturday, I got an invitation about the DHW weekend.
Then on Monday, I received a likely letter from the Cornell Engineering.
This seems counterproductive and it's way too many notifications for me.

hey, be happy, id rather be told good news 3 times than get a rejection, be proud and happy that one of the top universities in the world wants you, I am!

so do all accepted minorities get the DHW invite? or do they just choose some minorities to attend? is it possible to get accepted (minority) without having received an invitation?

are Asians minorities...?

asians are a minority in the united states (% wise)

but i dont think many are invited to DHW unless they are special populations...

yea asians are minorities in the US population, but are over-represented in colleges, and do not receive the same advantages as other minorities who are under-represented

I called and asked about it and they said that only selected minorities are sent an invite.

but is it possible for an URM to be admitted but not invited to DHW?

...of course?

it seems like it was for RD URMs, specifically, who are top-notch applicants and therefore more tempted to go to another great school instead of Cornell.
