Cornell's Diversity Hosting Weekend

Likely Letter. I feel like it's less braggart-like if I say LL, as I don't feel the need to put it in everyone's face that I got one, but if I just say I got into CAS people are like "No you didn't, decisions aren't out yet."

oh and that's beast i hope i get i likely letter or something to ease my nervousness and i definitely going from what i hear its really fun

wow so im good with an invite and no likely letter wow wow

Definitely go. It's a blast.

And I'd say you're in. I don't see any reason they would say "Hey, we're gonna spend several hundred dollars on you to fly you out here to get you to enroll next month, even though we're gonna deny you in a couple weeks."

lol fair enough sound right

Hey guys~

So I got that email for that invite from cornell.
I haven't gotten anything about an acceptance though.
Is this the type of email that's sent to everyone, or is it indicative of an acceptance????

those of you who have been in my shoes in previous years, please let me know what your experience was.

thanks!

It's not sent out to everyone AFAIK.

However, based on pure logical reasoning I'd say you're in. Why would they commit now to spending several hundred dollars to fly you out there after the admissions decisions are released if they weren't gonna admit you?

i called them today and asked about the invite and they confirmed that im in

i have a question about the DHW. they say your parents/family are invited as well, but how much of it are you actually going to be spent with your parent? i looked at the schedule for the parents and the students and the students one was more vague, so i dont know what all my family will be attending with me, especially on the second day. both schedules say breakfast together, but then the students one says "classes, lunch, campus life residential tours, dinner, then social activities" but parents say "info session, campus tour, residence hall tour and presentation, and then campus tour and residence ahll tour & presentation again.
will that Fridays day events be spent together, or will they be on a separate schedule? my sister (the only one who went to college in the family) wants to go with me but she also has to bring my 1 yr old niece and it wouldnt be worth paying for the trip and accomodations if she would only be able to spend 1 of the days there with me. if thats the case, im wondering if we should just visit it on our own on one of the Cornell days

but im still nervous

So, Cornell will fly you out there for free? (Am I reading this right?) I was invited to the DHW (Got a likely and all that fun stuff), so how exactly do I "request" that I be flown out there, or do they automatically do that when we fill out that form they sent us?

If you are far enough away, they will arrange for travel, including flights.

@lost4words

I would suggest you still go to DHW, not Cornell Days, but go alone. There will not be much interaction between you and your family, and you are also there to bond with other prospective students. I made lots of friends during DHW because of the awesome atmosphere, which I feel would have been prohibited had my family gone.

I'd say leave the parents at home. When I went, I was either running around with my host, doing things with the other pre-frosh, or chillin in the dorm room.

Not a whole lot of parental type things to be done.

Trackbabi: You didn't get invited to DHW but you were still accepted at Cornell? That give me hope for my D. She attended MVP but has not received a DHW invite.

uuuuughh, I want to go sooo badly!

I've been accepted ED, I am a URM, and I have never visited the campus. Plus, I am poor and it would be amazing if they could pay for my flight :(((

@pnl09

Me too! I got accepted ED and I still haven't received an email about DHW. I don't have to pay anything except the student contribution for Cornell, so I think I'm pretty much the definition of "high economic need." On top of that, I'm African-American and I live in Miami, which is around 1000 miles or so away from Ithaca. So I'm not sure what the selection criteria is for the invites. I really hope I get something in the mail, but by the looks of it, if I don't get an email, I'm not going. =(

That really sucks...I really want to go!

another thing about URM and DHW...

i think DHW is more about trying to steer you away from other top colleges...did those who were invited to DHW also get into other top schools?

Would Cornell really know what other, if any, top schools one got accepted into?

they could make an educated guess :)

they do know their field very well

chendrix, did you go to DHW last year? Did they send you an email before they sent you the snail mail invite? Or did they sort of spring it on you in the mail? How long did it take to get to you?
