Cornell's first-year program houses

Hey! I'm thinking about applying to live in one of Cornell's program houses, either the Holland International Living Center (HILC) or the Multicultural Living Learning Unit (McLLU). What are the differences?

I live in HILC. It is a very diverse community and we are very close to each other. We have country nights, international dinner and games spread through the semester, so it is quite interesting. The only flip thing about HILC is that it is quiet, which is great if you want to study. But if you are into partying and drinking, you best hope you get placed in Donlon or somewhere else. I don’t know too much about McLLU. I know its somewhere in Dickson but I think it’ll be best to hear from someone who actually lives there.

thanks!
would you say that there is always someone there that you could hang out with or it’s quite cause no one’s there?

Of course!! The advantage with Low Rises is that you’ll most likely form a close knit community with most people in your unit since you see them almost everyday. That’s like an automatic 36 friends for you to hang out with. Some of them may be unsocial but unsocial people are in every dorm. It’s quiet because most people respect each other’s space as opposed to e.g. Donlon where a friend can literally barge into your room with so much loudness and craziness.

Do you think it’s easier to move into Holland from a regular dorm or out of it as a freshman?
