the best program house to live in?
RATE THEM
akwe:kon, Just About Music, Risely, Ecology, Latino, Transfer House (Hasbrouk), Holland Inter, Multicultural, Ujamaa

I don't see how people can rate all of the program houses.

I've lived in the HILC for a year. Most of the kids are international and about 80%-90% are Asian. It's a really quiet dorm so if you're into studying, it's a good dorm. The internet connection there is also better than the other older dorms and there is wireless available for some of the rooms. Some good things are that there is "country night" every saturday night. It's when fellow students present cultural information about a specific country. There's free food at the end of the presentation. There's also ice cream nights on wednesday night and FAT (Friday afternoon things). FAT is just an activity that people organize every Friday (e.g., capture the flag, tie dying shirts, baking pies...). I think they have free coffee every night too. They also have a banquet every semester where they serve food. If you're really into cultural food or if you're like an international, I'd consider living here. I guess one downside of living in HILC is that it is cliquish. What I remember most about living there is actually the food because it was really good.

so as a transfer living in HILC how would you make friends.. if its cliquish?
whats the overall best program house?

I wanna hear about JAM

I lived in HILC for a year, but I didn't find it as so fun at all. The quiet dorm part is wrong. It depends on where you live. I lived in a part of HILC that constantly had noises from s*x, rock music, Korean music etc. The walls are paper thin so you can pretty much hear anything. You're very right about HILC being cliquish b/c there's a popular crowd that develops in the dorm normally. My advice, I would live in a regular dorm.

Although I lived in Balch this year, I have a lot of friends living in JAM and am living in JAM in August too.

JAM, this year, was pretty nice. The community is very tight knit, but they are also really nice and are always open to new members. They have several music practice rooms, music studios and a ministage for performances and coffeehouses throughout the year. Although most people get the idea that it's really loud, it isn't really. They have quiet hours just as any other dorm. Basically, it just houses a bunch of people who play or enjoy music. The rooms aren't bad and there are about 6 people (2 doubles and 2 singles) per suite and a bathroom in each suite. Females are in different suites from males. Location wise, it's pretty far from central campus, but centrally located from 2 of the dining halls (RPCC and Appel).

The community might change, however, in August, since a lot of sophomores got stuck with JAM, because West Campus filled up pretty quickly during the housing lottery in March. But even so, you should have a lot of fun if you pick JAM!
