Cornell's Rival?

Which school is Cornell's traditional rival?

Harvard vs. Yale is obvious
Princeton vs. Penn seem to be traditional rivals...

Which leaves Brown, Columbia and Dartmouth... thoughts people?

I'd say it's probably Columbia; they are very good with their academics and Cornell has half the number of nobles that Columbia has, even though I don't know how that factors in to the whole rivalry.

Harvard, at least in hockey

Cornell got pwned by Harvard in hockey but we own in lacrosse and ultimate frisbee.

Harvard in hockey, Penn in most other sports

Cornell split with Harvard in hockey harvardman1988, including 2 goals in the last few minutes to beat them 3-2 at Lynah this year.

But anyway, Columbia? I've never heard of that at all. It's definitely Harvard in hockey, Princeton in lacrosse. And no one cares about the others (sadly).

the game i went to they last 3-2

princeton lax game tomorrow!

Cornell beat Princeton 10-6 in lacrosse yesterday to take at least a share of the Ivy League championship and clinch the AQ to the NCAA tourney. Something like 10722 fans watched the game. Most intense home game of the year.

At halftime, they honored the 1977 NCAA lax championship team --

The Ivy rival is Princeton -- non-Ivy is Syracuse.

Penn is the biggest rival..definitely as far as I'm concerned

ooo yeah i see it...
that's just ridiculous

woahh ridic!

anywhoo i think that Cornell's rival is Harvard. colors. hockey. et cetera

PLUS the oars of the rowing teams of each are the same style just with the colors switched on the pattern...this always made me think.

"I got deferred to Penn, but accepted to Michigan with a significant merit scholarship (I'm OOS). Penn was my first choice, that's why I applied ED. But, I think more people know about Michigan. Everyone always confuses Penn with Penn State..no name recognition. Even if Penn accepts me in the spring, I may still pick Michigan...too hard to say "no" to that merit scholarship!"

why would u be dissing (ugly campus over and over again) a school that was ur first choice only a while ago??? i don't get it. then when u get into cornell, you kind of did the same to Michi... ummm... it's just wonderful. my psych teacher would def have a lot of fun w/ you. i simply love how your whole view abt penn immediately changed when u didn't get in.

go cornell lax! ;)

cornell vs. yale (when it comes to grad business school at least) haha

In football, Cornell's last game of every season since 1895 has been against Penn. I would say that qualifies as your main rival even if Penn did drop hockey in 1978. The two schools are also similar in being the two largest in the Ivy League with probably the most pre-professional programs at the UG level.

Gellino is right. Cornell and Penn actually compete for the Trustee's Cup in football every year. It's the biggest game of the year for both teams.

For the other 'marquee' sports:

Hockey -- Harvard, without a doubt. But every school is Cornell's most hated rival in hockey when they are playing on Lynah's ice.
Basketball -- Columbia, perhaps, Or maybe Penn.
Lacrosse -- Princeton. No contest.
Wrestling -- Penn. The only other Ivy that comes close to Cornell's dominance.

And here's a little song from the Cornell Glee Club:

"Harvard's run by Wellesley, and Wellesley's run by Yale. Yale is run by Vassar, and Vassar is run by tail. Princeton's for the pretty boys, and drunkards go to Penn, but far above Cayuga there's a race of hairy men."

Of all the Glee Club songs I know, the only Ivy that doesn't surface is Dartmouth, which I always found interesting. They have certainly given us a run for their money in hockey over the last couple of years.
