Corporate Scholarship Notifications

Has anyone received their National Merit Corporate Scholarship letter? If so, when did you receive it...still any hope for those of us who applied to the corporate, but not received a letter??

We received National Merit Corporate Scholarship letter on March 11. It was dated on March 9. If you are selected as corporate scholarship winner, you should receive letter by now. We lived in southern California.

Thanks. I thought that may be the case, but I did try calling national merit and they said that not all of the letters had been mailed out, but they told me they could not say which corporations had yet to been mailed out. I suppose that it is looking bleak, but even if anyone in the past received one this late…let me know! Trying to hold onto a little bit of hope…

Which company might give your child a scholarship?

mckesson. did your child receive one?

gongho, what company was yours from?

McKesson Foundation Inc.–20 awards for children of employees of McKesson and its divisions and subsidiaries.

McKesson gives 20 awards. Last year they gave 5 NMF awards and 15 special awards. If your child is an NMF, I would be very surprised if your child did not make it as obviously they did not get 20 NMF’s last year and it generally does not change dramatically from year to year. However, if your child was a commended student and not an NMF, things could be a little different.

Lacy, on the NMF timeline thread you also posted on, someone reported receiving a letter dated March 23. I am waiting on a different corporation than you, but have not given up hope yet.

Thanks for letting me know mammabear. Its good to know that other people are still waiting.

mazewanderer my child is not a NMF and we were hoping for the special scholarship.

I got my Liberty Mutual one a couple weeks back as well.

Mammabear what corporation are you waiting on?

my child is not a NMF and we were hoping for the special scholarship

Lacy…does your or your H’s company fund these? my younger son got one 2 years ago, but it was funded by my H’s corporation. I think that’s how these special ones get funded.

If it is a special scholarship, anecdotal evidence is that they are sent out last, after the NMF’s official corporate scholarships are done. So you should know soon enough. Meanwhile you can try and contact the HR department and they may know something. I assume you have already notified NMSC that your or your spouse work for a sponsoring corporation.

Yes Mckesson does fund special scholarships or rather funded it last year. As I pointed out in post # 6, they give 20 scholarships and last year 5 were NMF and 15 were special (as per NMSC statistics)

Thanks for the info mazewanderer. The special scholarship thing had been a bit confusing in the way everything was worded. And I did try contacting them, but the “could not give out any information.” I am hoping that it’s just taking awhile. I know that the official announcement of the Corporate Scholarships is on April 20, so obviously if not received by then there would be no chance. So about a little less than a month to receive a letter…keeping fingers crossed!

Thanks for all of the helpful posts.

Yes, it is funded by H’s company.

What happens usually is that some corporations have a fixed number of scholarships they give year. Some give every NMF a scholarship, other say we will give 20 scholarships. If there are more than 20 NMF who meet the criteria, NMSC staff decide which ones to give.

If there are less than 20 NMF, corporate sponsors can say that commended students can get it as long as their parents work for the company etc. and the total number does not exceed 20. Now these are not National Merit Scholarships as the students are not NMF. So they call them special scholarships. So the number of special scholarships could vary from year to year for each corporate sponsor.

Hello to all who are playing the waiting game for the corporate special scholarship. I have not heard yet either and am losing some hope as well. Since we applied for the scholarship, shouldn’t we expect some sort of response (at least a rejection letter) from NMSC or the corporation?

im also waiting to hear back about the special scholarshipp! if anyone has heard back from this, whether they received one or didnt receive one, please post it in here… im going crazy checking my mail everyday! lol

FYI. I called the good people at NMSC today and was told they were still working the corporate scholarship (Lockheed Martin) my child applied for and winners would be notified in April. The rejections would be mailed in May. Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting this. I have also been going crazy checking my mailbox every day only to become more and more anxious as the days go on. I am so glad that there is still hope! Please keep us posted!

I received mine about 3 weeks back from the Motorola Solutions Foundation- does anyone know if receiving a corporate-sponsored scholarship makes you a “national merit scholar”?
