I'm gonna be doing a skype call with an alumni and I was wondering if anyone has any advice :$
Im really nervous and I know that when I talk to people, I either really hit it off or I come off as really awkward.

Also, what do they ask, what should I wear, what should I ask.
I heard a friend tell me that it isnt really a formal interview and yea...

Renpei: you are splitting…ie don’t view things as “alum will hit it off with me or it will be totally awkward”. More than likely shades of gray and nuance will be involved. Stay integrated and centered. Your odds of admission to Vandy are not much better than admission to the Ivies here. So you have nothing to lose but to be open hearted, a good listener, to ask a few questions about how Vanderbilt living was experienced by this one alum. One son got a philosophy major contemplative type in human resources career, and also an interview with a varsity college athlete who was a member of what was then a minority religion on campus back in the day, another son interviewed with a physician who said he would not be admitted today, another friend had an interview with someone who kept talking to their kid and their dog. In other words, Vanderbilt is thousands of experiences, many unrelated to the other. Think about Vandy as one of the jewels in American culture among many many wonderful towns and colleges.
I always tell my sons before interviews that the shorthand for mental health is a good opinion of self and a high opinion of others. Show both of these things in your interview. Be ready to speak about people where you live who make a difference and about teachers you want to know at Vandy. Since you are Canadian, if Vandy is a school where you would definitely matriculate if admitted…say so. Be clear on that. But stay open to other schools and have confidence in yourself. you have what it takes to do well in college in Canada or anywhere. all interview experience is good experience.
