Hey guys! I’m a junior and I applied for the biomed cluster at Davis…of course not knowing how popular it is and how low the acceptance rate is, so, needless to say I’m terribly nervous! I hope we all get some good news soon though!

@MomentumA7 I know my answer is a little late but I live on campus at UCI in the faculty housing.

I feel that when the decisions do come out, I will not have the courage to open the email :(

@Momentum I have Yahoo e-mail so the title will come up from my front page anyway telling me if I’m accepted or not. D:

On my phone the email title also shows up first. D:

On my phone, it shows the first couple words of the email. If it doesn’t say “Congratulations,” I’ll ask my sister to open it :P

I’m kind of nervous to open it up with my phone, because if it doesn’t say something positive, I might just end up with a broken phone…haha

Hey, does anyone know how Cosmos compares to saast? I just heard that I was accepted to the robotics program Saast- Penn engineering. I have applied for Optics at UCSD and Tissue engineering. The Penn program gives a college credit. Which is more recognized though and will look better on college apps. I have heard so much about cosmos - and may like th optics a little better -( if i get in haha ) Thanks!

Saast seems like a really good summer program for those who want to go into engineering in college :)

by the way, why is everyone talking about the title of the email? What would the title be if it is a rejection letter?

@MomentumA7: The title will either say “Thank you for your application (or interest or something I forgot)” or “Congratulations!” The former is a rejection, the latter is an acceptance notice. The title determines whether or not you fall into a depression or acquire a heart attack. XD

@quarks21 Although I don’t know much about the specific SAAST program, I wouldn’t just go to one program over another for reasons of college prestige or college credit. Yes, the credit will save you money in the future. However, you could do the same thing at a community/local college. In fact, the latter option might be better in terms of college admissions. The reason for that is because colleges know what goes on at these summer pre-college programs. The material is condensed, and is at a lower level than what would be at college. However, at a local college you are taking an actual course. It shows hard work, responsibility, maturity, etc etc.

Another point: although we may not like to admit it, these programs aren’t really boosting our college apps at all. Colleges just see it as “Oh, you can afford the money for this program? Good for you, and I hoped you learned something but we don’t really care.” If you read the forums here on CC for the different programs, everyone says and agrees on this point. Even for the Ivy League programs, it’s the same thing. There may be some exceptions, like Telluride or Harvey Mudd (where there is no tuition and only the most qualified applicants are selected), where students design and research their own projects. However, generally these programs don’t add much at all to college apps.

So, with that being said, I would choose whatever program you are more interested in. If you get accepted to COSMOS, you have a difficult decision ahead of you. If you think you’d be more interested in the COSMOS optics cluster, then go for it instead of SAAST!

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helped a little. :]

A little bit random: just passed my permit test first try, no studying :D

@missiris
I disagree. Not only me, but also some UC app readers I know. These programs help a good amount in your application. COSMOS isn’t only about money. Sure you need to pay for the tuition, but you also need to apply, and if you get accepted, it means you are worthy of the program.

Well then, I would think COSMOS isn’t too prestigious. Its acceptance rates are generally much higher than some of the other programs out there.

And also, does COSMOS help you out on apps to non-UCs?

My main point was, don’t go if you are just trying to pad your r

oh my goodness guys

someone got waitlisted already? decisions are out?

this is so crazy. I am not prepared for this kind of news so early…if I get the email (with the cursed title), I will end up with a broken computer screen D:

@Nicole Lucky girl! My mom still thinks I should wait till I’m half way through junior year to get my permit.

@Momentum Oh my, now I’m really scared o.o I wonder what campus he applied to…

It’s not even the 21st yet, why are decisions coming out already?! D:

I would think they would release the acceptances first, and the rejections/waitlists later… I’m really nervous now! D:

I think that person got wait listed for that program…

@afourally Yeah… but it seems kind of harsh that they would release all the negative results first. :P

okay. for the next 2 weeks. I’m going to feel afraid to check my email.
