Sorry for the late reply. I’m also worried about acceptances, not many out of state students get in.

@16hliu I think it’s because less out of state students apply, not because they have a lower acceptance rate.

@16hliu Yeah, there are just fewer applicants. What state are you from? I’m NJ.

2013 Cosmos alumna here

Hey, guys. Anyone apply for Biotech at UCD?

@crowdedkitchen Hi, what campus did you go to and what cluster?

@exl028 Yeah me too…too bad I have to go to school that day. I’m gonna check as soon as I wake up. I’ll post my results on here whether I get in or not so you guys can see.

I know this is sort of late, but I was hoping someone could speculate on my chances of getting in

UCSC campus
Choice 1: Number Theory
Choice 2: Astronomy
GPA 3.7 unweighted, not sure about weighted but would probably be around 3.8/3.9
AIME qual this year
nothing much for EC (math club, tutoring, orchestra, comp sci club)
decent letters of rec
okay essays, could have been better
current sophmore

@dsi411 the decision is sent out on a Saturday right??
i will definitely post my results too.
im also applying some where else but i feel the other program is much more competitive. i just hope i am blessed enough to get into one

@exl028 Isn’t April 18th a Friday? I’d rather it be on a Saturday. Maybe I need to check on that. This is the only summer program I applied to. I really want to get in, but if I don’t, it won’t be the end of the world for me. Maybe I’ll volunteer or something during the summer if I don’t go to this.

@dsi411 really i thought it was the 19th… which campus did u apply ?
yeah i would probably volunteer a whole lot if i did not get in this summer
work on basketball, workout, etc

@exl028 I applied to UCSD for the biodiesel cluster and the computers cluster was my second choice. I’m gonna go check their website because I’m confused about the date.

@dsi411
I applied to uci so the date may be slightly different for each campus

I attended cosmos last year. The selections aren’t hollistic – it may depend on how many people apply to a specific cluster. If not a lot of people apply to cluster 1, for example, next year they will get rid of cluster 1 and replace it with a new one. In my cluster, there were a lot of people who weren’t even qualified to attend cosmos; they didn’t understand anything that went on in class and didn’t contribute to the project. Cosmos may reject a lot of Asians, but admit some less-qualified Hispanic people, since they need to admit a certain amount of each race, just like college applications.

Does anybody here have an application status says “under review”, and if so, how long has it been like this?

@crowdedkitchen What cluster was it? I thought the UCs didn’t practice affirmative action…if they do that’s good for me because I’m an african-american female. But they said on their website that they don’t do that. Maybe that doesn’t apply to COSMOS.
@french12 Mine says that now too! I guess it means they are looking at our applications now!

just wondering…does everyone else’s cluster choice thing also say “under review”?

@bob567 Yes, mine does at least.

Yes
