Alright, so Albert is showing that I am offered: $43,160.00 in a CAS scholarship, $5,500 in a Pell grant, and $3,000 in a work study. That totals to $51,660. They are also offering $10,300 in loans.

What I am confused about is the loans. Should I accept the loans? Because, the estimated costs show that my tuition is covered, and my room&board will be covered if I take a cheaper room (not the $8,066 per semester one on the estimator). Is this to cover for the fees, personal expenses, and books?

I love how we call the portal Albert XD
NYU costs about $61k/year so yes, the $10k in loans you were offered is for covering the cost of fees, personal expenses, etc. You don’t have to take their loans; look for some other ways of getting that money first, maybe a grant or loan from a rich uncle? XD

$59,300 for tuition, fees, room and board for the average shared room in NYU dorm and meal plan. $1000 more for books for the year and $1000 for personal allowance for the year. Note: while some have managed on so little personal allowance, many others spend upwards of $300/ month so the $1000/ year is likely to be an underestimation.

Note: you may be able to save with low cost housing, which is: $7164 for the academic year at Rubin (if you get in). $43700 (tuition and fees + 7164 = $50864; however, you would still need a meal plan, which is likely to be around $4000; books $1000, allowance money of at least 2000 for the year if not more. That brings you to approx. $58,000 on the lower end, if you curb your personal spending and if your textbooks can be purchased cheaply.

So your total with all scholarships, Pell Grant, work study and loans will just about cover the actual COA, though you may be able to shave $3000 off your $10300 loans if you budget and spend frugally. However, I would say your package including loans is about right for “average” expenses at NYU.
