I’m a currently a junior. What are my chances for schools such as U if I, Ohio State, Purdue, Maryland, Minnesota, and Michigan state.
Next year I will most likely have a
4.1 weighted
3.6 weighted
1400 sat
4 year athlete, 2 sports
Nhs, debate, student class board, economics club
150 volunteer hours
Overall very weak ecs, I focused mostly on sports and academics.
I would like to know if these schools are realistic choices for me next year.
Are you in state for any of them? In general, your chances are good for all of them. Specific majors may be tougher to get into, so it’s hard to say for sure, but I think you’ll be fine!
You can google the average SAT scores for engineering at these schools, I think you are right around the average for Purdue and a little below average for U of I - I’m not sure about the other schools
Those are large schools with lots of spaces to fill so not all the acceptances require tippy top stats. However, some cautions:
Pay attention to deadlines -- you may need to apply early if you want a chance at scholarships.
Pay attention to price -- make sure you understand what need and merit based aid is available for out of state students. Out of state tuition is often not the best financial choice if you will be full pay.
Be aware that some majors are harder to get into than the school as a whole, so engineering requires higher stats than, say, psychology. Within engineering, bioengineering seems to be especially competitive.
Similarly, admissions standards be higher for out of state than in state students in some cases.
