Chances for Specific Colleges

Hello,
I am applying to colleges this fall as a senior. My target schools are the University of Michigan(First Choice) and Purdue University(Second Choice). I would like to apply for Engineering. What are my chances for these universities?

I have an ACT score of 33 and an SAT score of 1490. My GPA since my freshman year is 4.0 weighted, and I have taken 6 AP classes so far, with 3 AP Classes next year. I took AP Calculus BC my junior year and got a 5. I have hundreds of community service hours through different organizations as well.

I would also like to know, how much impact does an internship have on the colleges I’m looking to apply to? I am looking to getting one at a major engineering company this year. Would this have an impact on college applications?

Thanks!

Michigan takes only unweighted GPA… A=4,B=3 and so on. You can look this up on their site. See what that number is. Out of State is tricky 10,000 on the wait list.

Getting an engineering internship while in high school I would think would show interest and be more then worthwhile on many levels.

Purdue you should be fine for. But I would have a few safeties that you are happy with. It’s harder each year to get in the “better” engineering university’s.

Reach out to each schools regional counselor for your school. It’s on both schools websites. Showing interest is very important to Michigan. Go visit if you are able to

Also your math and science scores should be your better Act scores in the subsets. If their not you might want to go one last time on either test. . A 34 speaks volumes.

You are competitive for Purdue. I would say a good match and chances at honors college. Michigan is a reach if you are out of state. As said above, have more match and safeties on your list.

Thanks for the replies!
I would like to mention that I am in state and am looking to apply for early action. Would you say the internship would help boost my chances of acceptance?

Any relevant experience is going to help. If you are instate, I think your chances are good for Michigan too.

You are asking a question you know the answer to. Yes an engineering internship will help strengthen your chances for at Michigan engineering. If you can do something unique with it then that would be better.
