This is the very first time I post on this site. I'm just wondering if I have a chance at any of these schools.. Thank you in advance.

Major: for UCB: MCB, UCLA: Neuroscience, UCSD: Neuroscience, UCD: Neurobiology Physiology and Behavioral Science.

Overall GPA: 3.85
Major GPA: 3.92

Extracurricular Activities: Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry, Supplemental Instructor for General Chemistry, Internship related to STEM, Coauthor of a paper that will be displayed in the 2014 ASEE. Also currently working on a project that will help underrepresented minorities in my area, working together with Stanford School of medicine, and volunteer student panelist for first generation students.

Personal Statement: I liked it, and had it reviewed by people in the Transfer center at my school, and close friends (to give me a different angle). I talked about challenges as a first generation student, and on the other one I talked about how personal circumstances got me interested in the biological sciences (nothing negative), and included relevant extracurricular activities.

Additional Info: UCB: TAP, UCLA: TAP, UCD: TAG, UCSD: NONE
First generation Student, and Underrepresented Minority. *Future goal is to finish college and attend medical school, I want to study Internal medicine.

First Option: UCB (more than the prestige of the school, they have a program I'm very interested in). Second: UCLA, Third: UCD, Fourth: UCSD

Yes I’m done with all my prerequisites for UCB (Physics based Calc is only recommended not required), and for UCLA it says that you could either finish OChem or a year of Physics based calculus. I finished Ochem Honors, and I’m taking physics based calculus 2 on spring. Thank you so much for your comments, it means a lot to me :)

Your extra curricular activities are stellar, and your gpa is no problem. You have more than a great shot at UCB and UCLA. You’re nearly a guarantee in for UCD and UCSD. This is assuming you’ve completed all your prereqs. If you have the means, then I would recommend you should apply for Stanford as well. Really hard to get into, but it seems like you have an app that could be competitive. Best of luck

Thank you, you guys are awesome! I hope so too Cayton, i seriously would love to attend Berkeley. It was like love at first sight haha, plus they have a program in which students work with the Cancer research institute and in conjunction with UCSF which is a plus since UCSF med school is one of my dream schools along with Stanford med school.

JonJon03: I was thinking about applying to Stanford, but they only accept about 20 students, and I haven’t taken the SATs, so I’ve decided to apply there for Med school, because I go to the Stanford School of Medicine two Saturdays a month (for a program) and the school is just amazing!. And yes I’m done with all my prerequisites, and should be done with IGETC by next semester, thank you!

I hope that you decide to be a BRUIN, there are not many minorities in here in South Campus (STEM side of Campus) and are always looking forward to add to see more. I am personally just regular math but I know many people in the soft sciences.

You can PM and I can forward you to people (they are also minorities) that are doing research in soft sciences (I call all life sciences “soft sciences” as opposed to hard sciences like physics, chem).

Thank you Dagoberto I’m seriously considering UCLA as well, especially because like you said they have a med school, meaning much more exposure to medicine. And that would be amazing if you could help me get connected, THANK YOU :)

nice, we applied to nearly the same schools haha. I hope you get into your dream school :). Are you applying to any privates, or just schools in CA?

I didn’t really feel like dealing with the requirements of different private colleges(They all have their own GE requirements, ugh) and I really want to save money and attend a high-quality institution.

Hopefully by next year, I’ll be a Bruin and you’ll be a Cal Bear.

Yeah I understand I’m only applying to two, even if I’m not getting in haha. Oh man does that mean we’re going to be rivals if we both get into rival schools? haha Wish you the best of luck!
