Stanford just recently called my counselor (I think a day or two ago) asking about me. They asked her some questions and she plugged a little for me, and they had no other questions. I'm very excited about the call (because I didn't really think I had a chance at Stanford), and wondering exactly what it means. I think that I was just a tough call- they wanted more information about me to make a better decision. Does anyone know from past experience what this means? Anyone else have other interpretations of the phone call?

Schools usually give the phone call to the counselor if they're trying to compare you to another candidate. This is a GOOD thing - it means that they're seriously considering you for admission! They call the admissions counselor for further clarification on stuff to make absolutely sure whether or not they want to admit you. If the info your counselor gives them is solid enough, it should push you over the top and give you admission.

so unclefeezus, you won't be 10 miles away or 200 miles away, but 2,000 miles away.

it most likely means you're borderline and you could probably go either way (which is a great thing for a place like stanford). i had this same thing happen with me at upenn when the admissions committee (yes, the committee) called my counselor to talk about me.. I ended up deferred, supposedly at the 'top of the pile', but things will hopefulyl work out much better for you (and me). good luck.

UncleFeezus, what high school do you attend? I also live in Houston.
