Calling counselors?

Hey I was just wondering if you guys had any insight into this. My counselor just told me that last week Harvard called her and she talked on the phone w/ an admissions counselor/representative or something about me. She said she strongly advocated for me and they talked for about 20 minutes. I don't think this is too uncommon (i'm not sure but I have heard of it before) but since im really not that knowledgable about admissions I was wondering in any one has any idea what that might imply. Im guessing it means im still being considered since it was just last week (Im guessing most kids are out). Would that mean im borderline? Any feedback would be appreciated thanks!

good question...i'd like to hear too

yeah id be great to have an idea of what that means. i got all excited but i dont want to get my hopes up cuz it may mean nothing

this late in the game, if they're still looking at your application, it can be nothing but a good sign. good luck!

Ya I sure hope so...it was a little shocking i guess and it's still a little odd they'd call and I definitely wish I could know why haha

my friend got one today too. (CA)
her grades are great and so is her coursework
BUT
her test scores are below the middle for H (2050 SAT, low SAT IIs highest was 740 on Math2...and she plans to major in engineering/has taken lots of math classes)
ECs were not impressive, but were consistent

I got one a couple weeks ago. I took it as a good sign. :)

definitely good sign. 2 days before ED decision, my friend's counsellor was called from cornell. then she was admitted for engineering

I don't know how I would take this? Did your counselor tell you what they spoke about? Don't they normally call counselors to see if what you've provided on your application is in fact true? Hmm.. Maybe you were so exceptional they had to verify, lol. I guess it's not a bad thing, but you shouldn't get your hopes up.

I got the same type of call from Stanford. They said that they were looking for my college class transcripts (from college classes I took at some colleges while I'm in high school). However, she said that the admissions officer was positive and could be a good indicator of a good decision.

there wasnt anything missing or anything like that....i talked to her and she said they just asked about my personality and how i behaved and goals or something i dunno....so i guess they wanted to know more about me as a person....really interesting i guess....and my stats are not that great either...i have a hook in my essay about being half egyptian/brazilian with a jewish mother and a coptic orthodox father so that was my harvard hook i guess....well hopefully its good news

"asked about my personality and how i behaved "

did you have an interview? maybe it's to compensate for not having an interview.

I did have an interview...my counselor said its only happened another time in her 20 years, and i guess princeton and yale called about one of her applicants and he got into both i believe....it makes you feel even more nervous now because im trying not to get my hopes up and be shattered in 10 days or so haha

The transcripts were missing, but she said that the admissions officer started talking to her about me for a good amount of time. I think the officer started the conversation about me.

On my application, I did mention the Princeton Humanities and Arts Symposium.

Like the poster, my counselor was also advocating me for around half an hour.

Hopefully, that is a good sign for marcus2008 and me. We'll find out about our admissions decisions in about 10 1/2 days.

ya good luck nhsharvard...it sort of made me even more apprehensive and i know this will be about the longest 11 days of our lives

last year, harvard called my counselor about one of my friends in my school to learn more about his personality, etc. and he was waitlisted.

my counselor told me I received the same phone call from harvard a couple weeks ago but I wouldn't consider this a signal for acceptance (although I REALLY wish it were).

from what i'm hearing and from logic, it seems that getting a call like that might mean that you're borderline for acceptance. Obviously if youve been rejected they wouldn't call, and I doubt they would call if you're at the top of their list and they for sure plan to admit you. So i'm guessing if you're counselor gets a call it may mean you're a borderline accept/waitlist student?just my own theory i guess does that seem to be possible? just image a harvard adcom talking about you as a person and what they should do with your app. scary

I think this was the first time my counselor got a call ask for my transcripts and my personality. However, every few year, 1 or 2 students usually get into a university like Harvard or Yale.

Yes, these will be the longest 10 days of our lives.

Have you gotten any acceptances yet, marcus2008?

yep I have....i have a full tuition scholarship to University of Washington-Honors and a full ride to WashU in St. Louis.....but somehow i didnt get into UCLA which makes me really worried...but not too surprised since im not too appealing to a big state school as OOS and not that great stats....

how about you?

Actually, I got in to UCLA in state becuase I live in SoCal.

I've also gotten into New York University, University of Southern California, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Davis, CSU Long Beach, and CSU Sacramento.

I'm still waiting for Cornell, Princeton, Harvard, Northwestern, UC Berkeley, Syracuse, Yale, Stanford, Colgate, and Brown. Most of these are 3/31 and 4/1.

I just want the decisions already!

Are you also overanxious about the decisions? What are you doing to keep yourself from overanalyzing what you did on the applications before you submitted them and how you did on the interviews?

Personally, I have to analayze 15 quotes with a 1/2 page commentary on each of them for AP Lit and I have some reading and some problems to do for AP Chemistry.

Also, I have to start relaxing. This year is busy for me.

Don't worry about UCLA because the admission process works differently at each school.
