Gah waiting for my Columbia College... Coming next Thursday!!!)!O!)!I

Did you apply 4 Wharton or CAS?

I still don't understand why guidance counselors are getting calls?!!! What is the point? And how do they determine which GCs will get called and which will not?

But why is the title of your thread

lmao

read what i said the counsler said to me. this whole thread has been blown out of proportion

Counsler got a Phone call __ ACCEPTED!!!
So I’m not accepted yet but I think my counselor got a phone call because the other day (Wednesday) she told me not to apply to all the schools on my list any longer. Of course I asked why and she said “I think you are going to get in, I just have a feeling the way the process has gone you’ll make it.” I said “well do you think I will get in the joint degree” and she said “I don’t know why you wouldn’t” If you knew my counselor she never tells anyone they have a shot at an ivy and a couple of weeks prior she told me that it could go either way but I was a good applicant. Do you all think the undergrad office started contacting counselors and my counselor knows something I don’t know?

congrats 10char

Am assuming you applied ED. OTherwise, I would recommend you send off those other apps. Yes, it is entirely possible that your GC talked to someone at Penn. He may know the adcom there. That is really what determines whether there is private communication between the highschool GC and the college adcom, not whether the school is private or public. It's just that private college adcoms tend to have more contact with private highschool, so there are more contacts in that area.
I still would not accept it as a fait accompli. Many things can happen before the acceptance letter, and I have heard of counselors getting the wrong message. And once again, if you did not apply ED, I would get those other apps out.

no i applied ed. She told me only to apply to hopkins and slu there was no need for anywhere else

congrats.

if it turns out my counselor knew about the decision im getting in 2 weeks, I'll be really disappointed in her for not telling me. she's really well-connected, but i doubt she got/gets calls like this...if she does, though, then it sucks not to tell us for sure

EDIT: waaaaaaaaaait a second. Your counselor didn't actually get a call. You're just assuming that your counselor got a call, because she said something encouraging to you. Did she mention a phone call? If not, don't assume it

PennHunter, congrats.

I also applied ED to Penn. Just by reading your thread, I can't help but notice how other CCers are very anxious.

Why not tell us your stats and to what school (like Wharton, college, nurse... you know?) you've applied?

Again, CONGRATS.

If you got in why would she tell you to apply to JHU and SLU?

o im nursing and health care management
nursing + wharton. all do a stat sheet
i have just been very busy

wait, PennHunter, aren't you the kid that said you got that financial aid thing with the PIN letter?
So I'M the first one who said you were getting in! I told you!

yes i was
Still let's not jump to conclusions. I don’t want to jinx myself

well so far that's 2 good signs for you;
I WANT some good signs too.

omg you're so lucky!
i think i will go talk to my gc too except, too bad its friday. now i have to wait through the weekends =[

I talked to my guidance counselor today. She is extremely experienced and said that selective colleges only call to confirm something on the application or to see first quarter grades; only unselective colleges actually confirm acceptances. With that said, she assured me that she would let me know if Penn decides to call her.

That would make sense; I am an unusual case because I had brain surgery and missed first quarter because I was on homebound for recovery.

SHe told me to apply to those schools (jhu & SLU) because i have connections there

I am hoping my GC gets a call soon... that is before the 14th of December... lol...
