Hello All,

I've posted here under an old username before, so I'm not sure if any of ya will remember me. I was the dude who had attended a couple of other colleges, not done so well, and was now attempting to get my life together and transfer from a California community college (with a way better GPA) to one of the UC campuses (UC Davis is my first choice)...hence I was/am in between a rock and a hard place. Anywho, I just had a couple of questions concerning the whole transfer process, as relates to my specific situation.

First Question: How to Admissions Officers approach situations like mine. I don't have that great of a track record prior to my current phase of collegiate education (certain authority figures in my life convinced me to, for one thing, lie on an application [something I'm not proud of). I didn't have that much direction in Life until recently, but I've really started to get my things in line (above 3.0 GPA, etc.) I guess one of the major things that's led me to think "OMG I can't tell the truth!" is the fact that I've got this understanding that 'good' colleges/universities are inflexible on situations like mine.

Second Question: Is it possible to transfer as a double or triple major? Just wondering.

Thanks in advance...

1) Yeah, don’t lie. You will have to enter in all the grades you’ve received and send in all transcripts from the other colleges you’ve attended. I guess the best thing to do in your situation is maybe write a personal statement on your experience…? What exactly is your ‘situation’ anyway – the fact that you’ve gone to different colleges and didn’t do so well? It’s actually… not a big deal. There are tons of people in similar situations, so don’t stress over it. Ignore whoever told you otherwise.

2) No, but you petition once you’re there. Try to complete as many requirements as you can (for your other majors) at your CC so that once you transfer it’s not a burden.

Well, let’s see:

I first attended Palomar College, taking over the full course load (13 credits) and working part time close to home. I attempted this for a year, failing all my courses. Next, (and this is when I lied), I applied to, was accepted to, and attended FAMU in Tallahassee. I did somewhat better for a while, but ended up leaving, after I earned a 1.93 GPA. So, now I’ve been back here, in SoCal, attending another local cc. BTW, I’ve heard the the UC system has an upper limit on the number of credits you can complete prior enrolling. Is this true?

only if they’re all from a 4 year. If you’ve racked up over 60 units from a 4 year then you won’t be able to.

However, I have a friend who graduated from a CSU with some technical/practical degree who spoke with an admissions counselor from UCB who told him that he could take the jc-transfer route. It’s not completely impossible.

Usually the number of (semester) units you want to stay under is 80, but I think Berkeley is the only one that really strictly enforces it. You should still try to stay away from going over that though.

Seeing that you want to go to Davis, I don’t think your chances are bad at all. Just maintain a very good GPA (to balance out your overall) and work (write?) your way through!

Okay, so, I 'm about to come clean to the admissions office of the community college that I am currently attending. I just don’t know what to say. I mean, I can mention the two other colleges that I attended and did bad at, but, in doing so I’m admitting that I lied on the application to the second one, which, as far as I know, amounts to academic fraud! I seriously need some advice on this!

You might want to seek some advice anonymously. I don’t think a lot of us can help you with your situation.

So…any ideas of who I should go to? Thanks…
