does anyone know when we're suppose to register for courses...as freshman 2013?

I heard June 15th… I could be lying out my ass though (maybe I’m confusing it with another college).

I haven’t even recieved my housing forms. haha I can’t wait to register though so excited!

when you come for orientation. whether that’s june 15th, or if you are coming over the summer, or if you’re arriving during welcome week.

don’t despair! they hold seats in every class for all of the orientation groups, because they know people made arrangements for the summer. you’ll get into the classes you need, don’t worry. trained orientation staff will help you pick classes.

you register through albert online through your NYU email on the left corner. its nothing to worry about. As a freshman, you will be taking the mandatory courses which always have openings. You can register 2 days before classes start and you will still be fine.

During orientation…whenever that is. You have to get advisor clearance for it.

wait… LSP students don’t go to orientation in June or w/e, its all crammed into welcome wk in august. Does that mean we get the annoying morning classes that nobody wants to take?

LSP students have a different curriculum than the other schools, so you will be choosing from separate classes: [NYU > A & S > Curriculum (For Liberal Studies Freshmen Entering in Fall 2009)](http://ls.nyu.edu/page/curriculum09)

It is only during sophomore year that you will take classes in the other schools, unless you want to shift your LSP schedule around to take something during spring semester freshman year.

Shimmering, this is how it worked last year. I assume it will probably be the same this year.

The initial LSP registration will be done by mail. You’ll get a letter probably mid-May. You choose a time preference for classes (you rank 1-3rd choice), and choose your elective… 3 of your classes are predetermined (cultural, social and your writing class).

The time slots last year were 8-12:30; 9:30 - 3:15, 2:00 - 6:15.

oh man this sucks…! However, I was told that pre-med majors normally take bio for sure, even as an LSP student as a freshman. Do LSP students take writing, social, cultural all at once or is it one of these per semester? How many classes do students typically take?

Also, is there a website that “reviews” professors? I know of rate your professors but are there any others out there? like specific to nyu?

Thanks!

You do it on NYU home on Albert.

MiscGuy:

Hmmm…I see the “Register” area on Albert, but from the information I’ve been able to locate, I believe we register for classes when we meet with our advisor during orientation. Placement exams are administered during that time and an advisor helps to shape our academic schedule.

Unless you mean that we register through Albert later, after the advising period…

Shimmering, the letter from last year said if you’re pre-health or a natural science major call the LSP office for an alternate registration form. You would take those three courses in the Fall and an elective, probably Bio.

do LSP students have any choice in their professors? a teacher from my old school will be teaching an introductory LSP course and I’d really like to take his class. does anyone know if i’ll have the opportunity to indicate a preference or is it the luck of the draw?

@ edwardb - This thread should answer a lot of your LSP questions http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/665278-question-answers-about-lsp.html

Yes, LSP students choose their profs. What will happen is you send in the classes you want in the mail, the school automatically makes up a schedule which you can check online in Albert (go to NYU Home, click the Academics tab, click “Student Login”). From there you can change to the professor you want. You can PM me if you have specific LSP questions.

Also pre-Med students start their classes right away. I urge you to take Chemistry I and II freshman year, these classes are pre-requisites to Organic Chem I and II and strongly reccommended before Bio I and II. The pre-Med classes are in CAS and are lecture halls, with required Labs and Recitation for Chem.

thank you so much for answering my question molly. i’ll check out that thread for more general info. thanks again for giving me the information I was looking for!
