Hey guys, I had some questions on the course schedule.

First of all, during summer orientation (I'm a freshman!), only freshman are allowed to register for classes, right? Upperclassmen (sophs, juniors, seniors) won't be allowed to register?

...I'm just wondering how fast I'll have to be during registration.

2) Typically, when do all the sections of various classes get assigned to actual faculty and staff members? Like for MIS 301 right now, there are many sections without an assigned professor as of now.

3) Do all classes have waitlists? I see that Brian Lendecky's sections for accounting are closed, but I don't see a waitlist option around it. Do you think there will be a waitlist option or do I have to wait till add/drop to see if I can get into his class?

4) Are intro classes that many freshmen take "closed" for now? And then they would be "open" during orientation when we, freshmen, sign up? I'm specifically talking about classes like Biology for non-science majors and Chemistry courses.

1) No, all current students can change their classes/register for classes during open registration periods. When the registration time opens for the week, you will be competing with those current students who wish to change their schedule. Given that, you will need to have multiple course numbers ready to enter as courses fill really fast. However, in subsequent registration periods, you can sign on and change your schedule if you wish. That’s why it is important to attend an early orientation so you have that opportunity to change/modify.

2) Most often courses with no professor listed will update right before classes begin in the fall.

3)No, not all classes have waitlists. Your example of ACC 311 demonstrates that, at least in McCombs, waitlists do not open up until all section seats are full.

4)Some are and some are not. As for science for non-science majors, upperclassemen take those courses too. So if you see a section closed, it is closed and the waitlist is full. However, Ch 304K (non-science majors) with Sutcliffe is still open. She is a good professor.

You’re a first semester freshmen so you should brace yourself for the distinct possibility that your schedule will not be ideal. It will get better your second semester, especially if you have AP/dual credit that jumps you in classification.

Some closed sections will never open because they are reserved for special programs, for example FIG. Freshmen will register to these classes/sections with a special PIN.

Most of first year students got there sophomore status in January and registered in November still as freshmen.
Exemptions were, I believe, students with 30+ credits.

I have a question: How long do you have to move from class to class i.e if you have a class that ends at 11am and another that begins at 11am. Will you have time in between?

And would 10 minutes be enough time to move between classes? I only toured the campus once back in October and it seemed pretty big but that might be something I get used to.

You can probably make it to all of your classes on time. Just don’t make it extra difficult by taking a Communications class followed by something in Jester.
