Course Selections

I am currently a Freshman selecting courses for next year. We had a new policy this year that made everyone do Physics in 9th grade so I haven't done Chem/Bio yet.

Looking at my course planner, I could do...

10th grade

Interdisciplinary English / Social Studies II (req.)
Hon Bio
Hon Adv Algebra
Band
Spanish III
PE (req.)
Religion (req.)

That leaves: Hon Chem or AP US & Comparative Govt (only 1 of 3 APs open to Sophomores, I was recommended)

If I did Chem I would be able to do AP USH, Chem, and Bio in 11th grade. I would not be able to do Govt until Senior year. Our school only allows seniors to take more than 3 APs in one year.

If not then it would be only USH and Bio in 11th and Govt in 10th grade, since I would not be able to do AP Chem and would have to take Hon Chem leaving no space for any other APs.

So in short -

Would it be better to come out of my Junior year have done APs in Chem, Bio, and USH or Bio, USH, and US/Comp. Gov?

I really don't think it would matter all that much at all. When you apply for college, they know what classes you will take senior year. Take the track that you think you can achieve the highest grades.

i would say to take honors chem this year and AP chem junior year. AP chem is (supposively) really hard. I think you would rather take it as a junior and not a senior when you have senioritis (sp?). If your worried that it'll ruin your GPA because your not so strong in math or science, then i would reccommend taking it senior year so that colleges see your ranking and such before semester grades. Overall, it depends on how smart of a math/science student you are.

If you're set on taking AP Bio junior year, it's nice to have a little chemistry background before doing AP Bio. So I'd vote for Chem (but then again, I'm a science nerd, so I'm rather biased).

You could also self-study Government, if you're good at those sorts of things. (if you have some political intuition it really helps -- and it's only supposed to be a "half-AP" anyway).
