Courses at Brown

I have an idea of what courses I want to take, but I'm not sure. I'm currently a sophomore, but they said they accept a few sophomores. Can you help me? Here's my narrowed list. I can only pick 3 and 3 backups.

11:30-1:15-Critical Reading and Writing I:The Academic Essay-Writing is one of my strong points and English is my best subject. So is this class a good idea?

1-3:20-Persuasive Communication-I want to be a broadcast journalist or news journalist when I'm older, so this makes sense.
Essentials of the Latin Language

1:30-3:15-Introduction to Music Theory-I'm probably taking AP Music Theory next year. So is it a good idea to take this class first to give me heads up for what's to come?
Introduction to Creative Nonfiction-Once again, I love writing and I love English.
Great Modern European Thinkers-I'm taking AP Euro this year and I love it.

3:30-5:50-Cultural Anthropology: Understanding Human Societies-I find this very interesting. I can't wait to take AP Psych and learn how to understand the human mindset. Brown doesn't offer Intro to Psych for the summer, so I'm hoping this can come close.
Sexuality in American History, 1880-1980-Just a subject that interests me

I refuse to take morning or night classes, or 4-hour-long classes, but tell me if I missed anything I might really love. Thanks!

I meant 2. 2 courses and 2 backups.

this is what I advise you look at -- the timing of the classes. My son is also going to Brown and his original class choices were back-to-back from just before lunch until late afternoon. It looks like alot of the seminars and activities for high schoolers are in the afternoon, so with that schedule he would have missed out on a lot of activities.

second -- look for classes that will depend or broaden your interests, a subject that you have always wanted to explore but isn't offered at your school, or something that just makes you say "wow"

try to avoid picking a class that you have already taken or will take. This is a 3 credit college course, so it isn't a little "intro to whatever" class. The Intro to Music Theory will probably be a repeat of AP Music, so it wouldn't make sense to take both. The English class is going to be very similiar to AP Language, so if you have taken that find another course.

I usually recommend that kids take one class that is "good for them" -- a class that makes up for a deficiency in their transcript or supplements an area they are weak in, and a second class that sparks their interest.

I think I've decided....Persuasive Communication and Cultural Anthropology. And then I can sleep in, eat lunch and have nights free.

I'm taking Introduction to Standard Arabic-- depending on your interests and on exactly how much work you are willing to face, you should prioritize the importance of social life and class life during the summer in relation to your expectations. Two small courses sound good, especially those two, since they are not an overbearing amount of work, but they convey an exact message.

comptinedunautre, we chose the same courses :]

I ended up changing my mind completely! Whoa, this thread's kinda old. I'm actually taking Studio Art and Radical Islam. But we'll see each other!

Haha, woops. I know it's old, I saw the date... I just felt like sharing :]...and yeah maybe we'd see eachother anyways :D
